12 drivers remain eligible for the championship. Four will be eliminated after next week.

Sunday’s race in Talladega, Alabama was the second of three races in the round of 12. Next week, the round concludes on The Roval at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Talladega

Talladega was expected to be a wildcard. It sure played out that way.

Kurt Busch won last week at Las Vegas and he’s locked into the next round of the Playoffs. That’s good as he ended up on his lid in a spectacular crash at the conclusion of stage two in Talladega.

Denny Hamlin was all but locked in when it came to the closing laps of Talladega. He had the green light and he went for it. Hamlin was on the apron in turn four and won as they beat off the fenders to the finish line at Talladega.

Aric Almirola, Clint Bowyer, Austin Dillon and Kyle Busch all had a tough day on Sunday. All were involved in crashes and they now sit under the cut line heading into The Roval.

Almirola is now in a must win situation heading into the Roval. Bowyer isn’t a must win, but he’s close.

Joey Logano and Team Penske dominated most of the day on the 2.66-mile oval. Logano was penalized for pushing a driver below the yellow line, twice. A crash late in the event ended the great day for Logano and Keselowski.

Chase Elliott finished 6th at Talladega Superspeedway. However, after the race he was penalized for pushing someone below the yellow line. As a result, Elliott was instead credited with 21st. 15 points were lost and he now sits close to elimination heading into the Round of 12 finale.
