Brandon Brown throws water 30 feet in the air during NASCAR rain race (Video)

The Charlotte ROVAL saw it’s first rain race, it brought many spectacular moments

On Saturday, the NASCAR Xfinity Series ran a Playoff elimination event on The ROVAL. The skies opened, rain fell and chaos ensued.

Watch the spectacular video from The Roval below.

With rain on the racing surface, the equipment no longer matters. The entire field is now on a level playing field with both the chassis and the motor.

Those millions spent to develop and extra 5hp aren’t relevant when the track is soaked and you can only use half the throttle. That’s exactly why drivers love rain racing.

However, the Charlotte ROVAL is a brand new racing surface. They asphalt is smooth, not course. The water floats on top of the track and it created many wild moments in Saturday’s race.

Brandon Brown

Brandon Brown has run 85 NASCAR Xfinity Series races in his career. He has zero top 5’s. However, he’s claimed five top-10’s in 2020 alone.

Brown drives for his family owned race team. Something that has just about gone away as corporate sponsorship and paying drivers have taken over the sport.

The 27-year-old brought his family owned equipment to the race track with a 7th place starting spot. At the start of stage two, Brown was on the bumper of Noah Gragson for the race lead.

He passed Gragson for the lead. However, he forgot to brake for the corner. Brown shot right through the chicane, sliding through the water.

Per the rule book, Brown was forced to come to a complete stop. He did and buried himself deep in the field. Brown fought back to finish 7th in stage two.

With just a handful of laps remaining in the race, Brown brought an end to his up and down day, in spectacular fashion.

Through the infield road course section of the track, Brown went off track. All day, drivers have been pushing water off the racing surface and it’s the grassy runoff areas. It was a lake out there.

Brown’s front splitter became a water plow as he went through the grass at high speed. Water was thrown 30 feet into the air.

The action isn’t done on The Roval at Charlotte Motor Speedway. We’re set for more stock car racing chaos.

Today, the road course is set for the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs. It’s an elimination race in the Round of 12.

The NASCAR Cup Series has never raced in the rain. Today, will likely to be the first.
