NASCAR race results from the Charlotte Motor Speedway Roval; First rain race in history
Today, the NASCAR Cup Series drivers are set to bolt on rain tires for the first time in the history of the sport. They’ll do it on the 2.28-mile road course in Charlotte, North Carolina.

This is an elimination race in the NASCAR Playoffs. 12 drivers are eligable for the championship at the start of this race. Four will be eliminated after today’s NASCAR race on the Roval.

Stage 1 – Report
Laps: 25 (1-25 / 109)
Green flag, Hamlin gets the jump on the inside lane and he’s clear into turn two. Elliott and Keselowski remain side by side for 2nd. Keselwoski wins the battle.
Keselowski has a run on Hamlin into the backstretch chicane. Hamlin gives him the spot, Keselowski leads lap 1.
Lap 8, Elliott drives it deep on the outside in turn one and pulls even with Keselowski. Elliott takes the lead.
Competition caution
Lap 11, the competition caution is out. Ty Dillon pits for slick tires, he’s one of two drivers to take that gamble.
Green, Truex clears Elliott into turn one. Ty Dillon is dropping through the field as the track is still wet.
Lap 13, Clint Bowyer outbrakes Truex into the final chicane, Bowyer leads.
Lap 17, Ty Dillon is running 11th but he’s flying through the field in a hurry. The gamble on slick tires is paying off. The drivers on rain sets are hitting the pit lane to swap them for slicks.
Lap 21, Ty Dillon is on the bumper of Clint Bowyer for the race lead! With slick tires, Dillon drives right by to take the lead. At the same time, Hamlin is off in the grass, no caution.
Lap 23, John Hunter Nemechek is stuck in the grass and the caution is out.
Green, Ty Dillon gets the jump and opens the gap.

Stage 2 – Report
Laps: 25 (26-50 / 109)
Ty Dillon hits the pit lane. The lead is handed to Christopher Bell.
Green flag on stage two, Bell gets the jump as Byron beats on the bumper of DiBenedetto for 2nd.
Lap 30, Byron has a look on the inside of Bell into turn one. He outbrakes him and takes the lead. Byron runs wide and nearly into the grass in turn three but he holds the lead.
Lap 34, Keselowski spins, Erik Jones and Matt DiBenedetto comes to a completes stop to avoid him, no caution. Moments later, Bell spins from 2nd.
Lap 40, Ryan Blaney has run down William Byron in the fight for the race lead. He looks inside in turn one and clear, Blaney leads.
Lap 46, green flag pit stops are underway and the caution is out for JJ Yeley!
Green, Blaney and Logano run side by side in turn one, Blaney wins the battle. Kyle Busch has a flat tire.
Finale lap in stage two, Hamlin spins. Ryan Blaney drives away to win stage two!

Stage 3 – Report
Laps: 59 (51-109 / 109)
As the leaders hit the pit lane, the lead cycles back to Christopher Bell. Chase Elliott hits the pit lane just ahead of the restart with a loose wheel.
Green flag on stage three, William Byron fights with Bell for the lead in turn one. Byron leads into turn two. Custer spins behind them and Hamlin is sent to the grass, no caution.
45 to go, Ty Dillon is stuck in the grass and the caution is out.
Green, Byron leads in turn one. Bell washes wide out of turn one and Bowyer pulls even with Bell. Bowyer to 2nd.
40 to go, Austin Dillon is around off of the turn four oval. Kyle Busch clipped him in the right rear.
The leaders head to the pit lane under yellow, Kurt Busch wins the race to the pit exit.
Green, Blaney leads into turn one. Bubba Wallace spins Ricky Stenhouse Jr, no caution. Clint Bowyer has a broken part after the field stacked up in that.
36 to go
36 to go, Ryan Blaney spins from the race lead! He hands the lead to Ryan Preece.
28 to go, the top 5 run nose to tail. Preece wiggles in turn three and Bowman looks to his inside. Bowman leads Elliott.
26 to go, Bowman runs wide and Chase Elliott takes over the lead.
24 to go, caution for debris. Matt Kenseth is also stuffed in the tire barrier.
Kyle Busch stays out, most of the field head for the pit lane.
Green, Bell spins the tires and Kyle Busch gets the jump. Joe Gibbs Racing runs 1st, 2nd and 3rd.
19 to go, Erik Jones looks to the inside of Kyle Busch for the lead. Jones leads by Chase Elliott is closing quickly.
18 to go, Elliott drives it deep to the inside on Erik Jones in turn 8, he crossed under him by entering high into turn 7 and cutting low for turn 8. Clear, Chase Elliott leads.
12 to go
12 to go, Brennan Poole is slow and the caution is out.
Many hit the pit lane. Elliott stays out.
Green, Elliott clear Erik Jones and holds the lead in turn three. Logano follows him through and takes 2nd.
5 to go, Elliott leads Logano by 2.4 seconds.
2 to go, Martin Truex Jr and Kurt Busch spin into the back stretch chicane in a battle for 3rd, no caution.
