The Charlotte Roval hosted the NASCAR Cup Series today. It was the Round of 12 finale in the Playoffs.

Clint Bowyer entered the Roval race in a must win situation. And he came close to doing just that.

On lap 13, Bowyer took the race lead by outbraking Martin Truex Jr into the chicane. As the track dried out, Ty Dillon already pitted for slick tires during a previous yellow.

Dillon drove through the field as he was one of two cars on slick tires. As the rest of the field abandoned rain tires with a green flag stop, Bowyer elected to stay out.

With just a handful of laps to go in stage one, Ty Dillon had run down Clint Bowyer. Slick tires vs rain tires, Ty Dillon drove by with ease and took the stage one win.

With 45 to go, Clint Bowyer found himself back in 2nd.

No power steering

With 36 to go, Bubba Wallace spun Ricky Stenhouse Jr on a restart into turn one. As the field checked up to avoid the spinner, Bowyer caught nose damage due to the accordion effect.

With the nose busted in, Bowyer lost power steering. He dropped through the field as he radio’d to the crew that they were down.

However, Bowyer gathered composure and muscled the car, on a road course, without power steering. He was in a battle for position for the last 36 laps.

Bowyer battled back to grab a top-10 run.

After the race, Bowyer climbed from the car. Exhausted, he sat on the ground beside his car, hands shaking as they poured water on his head.

Bowyer was then taken to the medical center.

Update:

After the race, Bowyer took to twitter. He was released from the medical center.

“I’m good. Was definitely outta gas!! Another couple three laps and I’d have been on the ground after race crappie floppin’ Self inflicted, I shouldn’t have knocked the Power Steering out,” Bowyer stated.
