Today, the USAC Silver Crown Series has landed in Springfield, Illinois. The 1-mile dirt track on the Illinois State Fairgrounds is set for the Betternhausen 100.

Kyle Larson ran the Dirt Track World Championship last night with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series. David Gravel ran the NASCAR Truck Series event on Saturday at Kansas Speedway. Both drivers are here today and set for the green. This is the first Silver Crown start for Gravel.

Justin Grant put his car on the pole position for today’s dirt race. Kyle Larson completes the front row.

Betternhausen 100
Race Report

Green flag, Grant gets the jump on the inside. He slides to the cushion in turn one and leads off turn two. Brady Bacon works to the outside of Larson to take 2nd.

Lap 7, Bacon has a look on the inside of Grant for the lead but he can’t complete the pass. Larson closes on both of them.

Lap 8, Bacon has another look on the inside. Larson works to his outside in the process, Larson back to 2nd.

Lap 9, the top three run nose to tail.

Lap 11, Grant enters turn one through the middle, slides up and catches the cushion. Larson enters the turn much higher, catches the cushion much earlier and he has momentum off turn two. Larson works to the outside of Grant and clear. New leader, Kyle Larson.

Lap 30, Larson leads Grant by 1.2 seconds. Patrick Lawson is slow and the caution is out.

Green, Larson leads the field into turn one. Grant holds 2nd.

Lap 43, Bacon has a look on the inside of Grant in the battle for 2nd. He can’t complete the pass.

Halfway

Lap 50, Kyle Larson leads Justin Grant by just over 1 second. David Gravel started this race in 16th, he’s just cracked the top-10.

Lap 60, Larson now leads Grant by 2 seconds. He’s opening the gap on the field.

Lap 65, the caution is out. Kyle Robbins is parked against the inside guardrail.

Green, Larson leads the field to the bottom in turn one. David Gravel moves to the outside of Kevin Thomas Jr to take 7th away.

21 to go, Larson continues to lead. The gap is now 1.5 seconds back to Justin Grant.

20 to go

20 to go, Shane Cottle is slow, no caution as he heads for the infield.

17 to go, Jacob Wilson pushes off the bottom, Gravel fills the hole. Move Gravel to 4th!

15 to go, Bacon pushes up the banking in turn two. Gravel to 3rd! He’s running laps about a tenth quicker than the leader.

10 to go, Grant is closing in on Larson in the battle for the race win. The leaders work heavy lap traffic. Larson leads by just a half second.

7 to go, Larson is struggling with lap traffic. Grant is within a car length! Gravel closes on both of them and the top 3 run bumper to bumper.

6 to go, Larson clears the lap car. Grant makes contact with the lapper and Gravel takes 2nd!

3 to go, Larson has clear track ahead and he’s opened the gap on Gravel. Larson leads by 1.9 seconds.
