CJ Leary: Defending USAC champion suspended

CJ Leary has been suspended following the race win at Gas City Speedway in Indiana

On September 25, CJ Leary drove to victory lane at I-69 Speedway in Gas city, Indiana. The win came in the USAC National Sprint Car division.

Leary is the 2019 USAC National Sprint Car Series champion.

On Saturday, USAC Racing announced a steep penalty for the driver. He’s been found in violation of section 309 in the USAC Rule Book. That section refers to tire doping chamicals.

USAC Rule Book: “309 (Tires) C. Any solvents or chemicals applied to the tire that alter the chemical makeup of the compound or have the effect of altering tire durometer or construction is prohibited. A tire can be confiscated at any time. Penalties from tire found to deviate from the original factory benchmark specifications are as follows:

CJ Leary Racing has been fined and penalized. The official race result is now a DQ, last.

Justin Grant finished 2nd in the September event. He’s now officially credited with the race win.

Leary has forfeited all earnings and points collected from the Gas City win. Additionally, he’s been fined $2,5000.

Both driver and team are suspended for the next 6 races. That includes all USAC divisions.

Leary will not be able to return to USAC action until Nov 21st.

This infraction marks the second tire related penalty in USAC divisions this month. On October 1, Kendall Ruble was handed a tire altering penalty following the September event at Tri-State Speedway.

The new winner celebrated his surprise victory from home in spectacular fashion.
