Texas Inspection Issues: October 25, 2020 (NASCAR Cup Series)

Several drivers have been handed penalties at Texas Motor Speedway

Today, the NASCAR Cup Series unloads in Fort Worth, Texas. The 1.5-mile track of Texas Motor Speedway is set to host the event.

There’s only 3 races left in the season. Currently, 8 drivers are fighting for the four spots in the championship round. Martin Truex Jr is one of the 8 playoff drivers.

The No. 19 of Martin Truex Jr., No. 49 of Chad Finchum and No. 96 of Daniel Suarez all failed inspection twice. Those cars will drop to the rear of the field.

Additionally, NASCAR has confiscated the rear spoiler for the No. 19 of Martin Truex Jr.

The Joe Gibbs Racing team was found in violation of section 20.4.12.b in the NASCAR rule book. That rule notes that all spoilers must remain untouched from the manufactures.

The No. 19 team has been fined $35,000. They have also lost 20 driver and 20 owner points.

The crew chief has also been ejected from the speedway.

Truex Jr would have started the race 6th and 31 points below the cutline.

NASCAR Inspection Penalties (Rules)

1 NASCAR Inspection failure: No penalty, the team gets to go to the back of the inspection line and try again.

2 NASCAR inspection failure: If a team fails twice, NASCAR will send that car to the rear of the field.

3 NASCAR inspection failures: They have to start at the rear. In addition, the car has to serve a pass through penalty on pit lane at the start of the race.

Typically, NASCAR crew members are ejected on a second failure. However, due to a lack of practice and/or qualifying in recent events, series officials have given less-strict ejections for failed pre-race inspections.
