NASCAR driver Josh Reaume apologizes after suspension then deletes social media account

Josh Reaume says his social media post was ‘taken out of context’

This week, NASCAR driver Josh Reaume was indefinitely suspended. The driver was found in violation of sections 12.1 and 12.8.1.e in the NASCAR rule book.

Reaume is the driver of the No. 00 in the NASCAR Truck Series along with the No. 33 and No. 34. Beyond Trucks, also made several starts in the NASCAR Xfinity Series with Mike Harmon Racing and RSS Racing. The 30-year-old has one top-10 in 52 truck starts.

NASCAR rule book: “public statement and/or communication that criticizes, ridicules, or otherwise disparages another person based upon that person’s race, color, creed, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, religion, age, or handicapping condition.”

The report was vague, similar to previous violations of the same type. However, it did note that the cause for the suspension stemmed from a social media post.

So what did Josh Reaume say?

While the post wasn’t specifically mentioned in the penalty, rumors have circulated about what the post entailed. It appears Reaume shared a photo of a breakfast pastry with what could have been frosting drawn in the shape of Swastika to his Snapchat.

Kickin’ the Tires first reported what the image entailed. They also stated that the image was turned over to NASCAR.

Josh Reaume apologizes

“In regards to NASCAR’s statement involving my social media post: On Thursday I posted a picture of my evening snack and it was taken out of context,” Reaume posted on social media after the suspension.

“It was never meant to offend anyone and I’m sorry if it did. I hope that you will judge me by my character and who you know me to be.”

Reaume continued to speak on his history and his team. Reaume is an owner of Reaume Brothers Racing.

“I grew up in an ethnically diverse family and West Africa was my home for 13 years,” Reaume wrote.

“My team has arguably had the most diverse set of drivers in the history of NASCAR. My goal is to continue to partner with fans, sponsors, drivers, and crew members from all backgrounds and share opportunities. I appreciate everyone’s support. I look forward to Daytona.”

A few hours later, Reaume deleted his twitter account.
