F1 crash dramatically splits Romain Grosjean’s car in half (Video)

Today, the Bahrain International Circuit hosted round 15 of the F1 calendar.

On lap one, Romain Grosjean was involved in a dramatic crash. He was clipped in the right rear and sent nose first into a perpendicular guardrail.

On impact, the car exploded. With the incident taking place on lap one, the car was full of fuel.

The nose was stuck between the guardrail while the rear end of the car became separated from the rest of the machine.

One of the wheels became separated from both parts of the machine. It bounced all the way across the track, landing on the opposite side.

Miraculously, Grosjean was able to run away from the crash. He climbed over the guardrail, engulfed in flames as safety workers sprayed him down with fire extinguishers.

Race officials immediately threw the red flag on the race and brought the field back to the pit lane.

Haas F1 statement

“Romain has some minor burns on his hands and ankles but otherwise he is ok. He is with the doctors just now,” Haas F1 stated.

“Thank you to Medical Car driver Alan van der Merwe, the circuit medical team and marshals for their quick thinking and actions in getting to Romain so soon after the accident.”

A later update from the team stated that Grosjean had been transported to a hospital. They believe he suffered broken ribs.

Officials brought a 45 minute delay to the race before restarting the event.
