The Snowflake 100 is run during the same weekend as the Snowball Derby. This race is run independent of the Snowball Derby but many of the same drivers run in both classes.

These cars look similar to the Snowball Derby field. However, they’re fitted with two barrel carburetors. The lack of horsepower forces the drivers to run a different line. Also, teams aren’t allowed to change tires in this race, unlike tomorrow’s 300 lap race.

36 drivers line up for the pro late model main event. Derek Thorn and Dylan Fetcho set the front row. 100 laps of short track racing are up next…

Race Report

Green flag, Thorn noses ahead on the bottom into turn one and he’s clear off turn two. Stephen Nasse works under Ryan Luza to take 3rd away.

Lap 20, Thorn leads Fetch leads by 1 second.

Lap 22, Stephen Nasse is on the bumper of Dylan Fetcho for 2nd. Nasse clears him with ease as Thorn works lap traffic ahead.

Lap 32, Dylan Fetcho works to lap Dylan Smith. Smith didn’t know he was there and he nearly takes out the 3rd place runner. Fetcho was quick on the brakes to avoid an incident.

Lap 36, Bubba Pollard is coming to the front. He works under Fetcho to take 3rd. Thorn leads Nasse and Pollard.

Lap 39, Steven Chunn is in the wall in turn two and the caution is out for the first time.

Green, Thorn leads as Nasse and Pollard run side by side for 2nd. Nasse lifts on the outside and Pollard takes over 2nd.

Halfway

Lap 50, Thorn leads Pollard by 0.3 seconds. Jake Johnson runs 11th after transferring into this race through the LCQ.

Lap 54, the lap car of Justin Marks clips the right rear of Thorn and gets him loose. The leader is still rolling but now Thorn, Pollard and Nasse run bumper to bumper in the battle for the lead!

Lap 60, Pollard gets loose, moves himself out of the groove and Nasse takes the 2nd spot away.

Lap 66, Jim Wall slows on the track and the second caution is out.

Green, Thorn leads on the inside. Nasse fights back hard on the outside. They run side by side for the lead, Nasse has the momentum and takes the lead. Spin behind them and the caution is out! Thorn will get the lead back.

Green, Thorn leads on the inside. Nasse hangs onto his right rear. Connor Okrzesik spins behind them and the caution is out. Okrzesik jumps out in a hurry to voice frustration. He then sees that the car isn’t so bad. The helmet is back on and he’s back in the car.

30 to go

Green, Thorn and Nasse run near even into turn one. Nasse noses ahead on the outside in turn three! Thorn rubs doors with Nasse back in turn three and Pollard looks on the inside of both of them. Three wide for the lead! Pollard backs out.

28 to go, Nasse and Thorn remain side by side for the race lead! 27 to go, Thorn finally clears Nasse to hold the lead. Nasse tucks in behind him, right ahead of the nose of Pollard.

22 to go, Nasse puts the bumper to Thorn off turn four! Nasse to the race lead! Pollard follows him through and takes 2nd.

17 to go, the caution is out.

Green, Nasse and Pollard run even into turn one. Spin behind them, caution.

Green, Pollard gets the jump into turn one on the outside lane! Pollard leads off turn two. Nasse holds 2nd.

10 to go, Pollard leads Nasse by a half car length.

6 to go, Pollard opens the gap to two car lengths.

3 to go, Nasse is back on the bumper of Pollard.

1 to go, Nasse is all over the bumper of Pollard for the race win! Nasse tags the rear bumper of Pollard into turn three. Pollard spins and Nasse takes the race win!

Penalized: Officials have penalized Stephen Nasse after the win. It’s the second year in a row that Nasse went to victory lane before the win was taken away. This time, the penalty is Nasse finishes at the tail end of the lead lap.

After the penalty, Jake Johnson takes the win! Johnson started this race after transferring through the LCQ.
