NASCAR announces no penalty for Noah Gragson’s pit road incident

However, Noah Gragson and Daniel Hemric aren’t totally out of the water following the pit road altercation

On Saturday, the NASCAR Xfinity Series had it’s fair share of drama at Atlanta Motor Speedway. During a pit stop, Daniel Hemric overshot his pit stall due to another car leaving their box.

Instead, Hemric came to a stop in the box of Noah Gragson. That caused Gragson to miss his pit stall as well.

Hemric and Gragson then backed into their boxes. Gragson took it a bit futher, backing up into the front nose of Hemric’s machine. As Gragson then pulled forward to line himself in his box, he stuck his hand out the window, giving the middle finger to Hemric.

“The middle finger you gave me out the window was a pretty clear indication to me that you knew exactly what your intent was. Thanks for posting the facts,” Daniel Hemric stated via twitter.

After the race, Gragson was in the middle of a tv interview when he was approached by Daniel Hemric. Gragson threw a punch that was dodged by Hemric. Hemric then came back with a punch of his own.

A JR Motorsports crew member then grabbed Hemric. As he had him in a headlock, Gragson reached around and landed a punch.

On Sunday morning, NASCAR announced that Noah Gragson would not be penalized for the contact on pit road. However, that doesn’t free himself or Hemric from penalties later in the week regarding the altercation after the race.

Scott Miller comments

“We reviewed the incident which occurred between the 9 and 18 cars on pit road during Saturday night’s race at Atlanta Motor Speedway, and met with Noah Gragson after the event,” Miller said in a statement issued Sunday morning.

He added, “A chain reaction of events led to the 18 and 9 both overshooting their pit stalls. The 9 ended up both long and out of his pit box to the outside, and needed to back up as far as possible to have any chance at fully pulling into his box. After reviewing the video, it is our judgment that the contact was not deliberate.”

NASCAR usually releases their official penalty report on Tuesday.
