This is the season opener for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour.

Justin Bonsignore has been sent to the tail of the field ahead of the green flag. The team had a water leak and had to change some parts. He’ll be charging through the field.

NASCAR Cup Series have invade the field and locked out the front row. Ryan Preece and Ryan Newman lead them to the starting line. 200 laps of asphalt modified racing are on deck…

Green flag, Preece gets the jump in the inside lane. Newman tucks in behind him as Tommy Catalano drives it deep on the outside to battle for 2nd.

Lap 3, Walter Sutcliffe Jr is around and the caution is out.

Lap 9, the red flag is out and the cars have been pulled to the pit lane due to weather.

Green, Preece leads on the inside into turn one. Catalano hangs onto his right rear but can’t take the lead.

Lap 16, they’re beating on the rear bumper of Ryan Newman as he struggles to get off the corner with some kind of mechanical issue. Car around behind him due to the accordion! Multiple cars pile into the scene and we have a junkyard. More than half the field is caught up in the crash as they track quickly became blocked.

Green, Preece leads into turn one as Catalano holds 2nd.

Lap 28, Catalano is all over the bumper of Preece for the race lead as both of them open a gap on the field.

Lap 32, Dave Sapienza has lost a right front tire after contact with the wall and the caution is out. As the field rolls under caution, Sapienza shows fingers to Kyle Bonsignore.

Green, Preece is clear off turn two.

Lap 47, Ryan Newman is slow on the front stretch, no caution.

Lap 77, Justin Bonsignore has climbed from the tail of the field all the way to 6th. He puts the bumper to Max McLaughlin and takes 5th away.

Lap 78, Kyle Ebersole on on the bumper of Catalano for 2nd. He works inside and clear.

Lap 79, Bryan Dauzat is stopped on the apron and the caution is out.

Pit stops

Preece leads the leaders to the pit lane. Fuel only for Preece and he leads them to the pit exit. Bobby Measmer and Ronnie Williams crash on the pit lane.

Green, Preece is clear before turn one as Ebersole holds 2nd. Justin Bonsignore takes 3rd away.

Lap 98, Bonsignore enters high then swings down the slight banking on the exit to cross under Ebersole. Bonsignore to 2nd.

Lap 100, Bonsignore is all over the bumper of Preece for the race lead! Bonsignore enters high in turn three, he crosses under Preece off turn four. Preece lifts and hands him the lead in turn one.

Lap 100, the caution is out as Tyler Rypkema tags the wall. Preece will be handed the race lead once again as the caution was out before Bonsignore crossed a scoring line.

Green, Preece leads on the inside as Bonsignore tucks right on his bumper.

90 to go

90 to go, Bonsignore has a run into turn one. He pulls to the inside and Preece gives him the lane. Bonsignore to the race lead!

75 to go, Justin Bonsignore, John McKennedy and Eric Goodale run nose to tail at the front as they break away from the field.

65 to go, Kyle Ebersole pits under green with an issue.

51 to go, Patrick Emerling gets turned and the caution is out.

Pit stops

The leaders return to the pit lane. Bonsignore leads them to the pit entry but Max McLaughlin and Jon McKennedy will lead them to the restart, fuel only for those cars.

Green, McLaughlin and McKennedy bang bars into turn one. McLaughlin holds the lead off turn two. Bonsignore takes 2nd away.

40 to go, Bonsignore drives it deep to the inside of McLaughlin in turn three! He shoves it in there and returns to the race lead.

34, Eric Goodale beats on the rear bumper of Bonsignore in the battle for the lead! However, he can’t work to the inside.

31 to go, Goodale pushes on the bumper of Bonsignore in turn three. Up the banking he goes and Goodale fills the inside lane as Bonsignore falls to 3rd as he gathers it up.

20 to go, Gary McDonald has come to a stop and the caution is out.

Green, Goodale and Tyler Rypkema run side by side into turn one and off turn two. Goodale runs Rypkema up the track into turn three and Goodale leads off turn four.

5 to go, Rypkema has closed to within a car length of Goodale in the battle for the win!

Eric Goodale holds him off to win at Martinsville Speedway!

Jon McKennedy is in the wall hard behind them.
