Taylor Gray injured in car accident ahead of NASCAR debut

16 year old racing driver involved in auto accident

Taylor Gray was involved in a single-car accident on Wednesday. The road accident happened in Statesville, NC.

Gray was transported to a local hospital. He was reported in stable condition per a team release.

On Thursday, the driver went into surgery at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC. He has a fractured L4 vertebra.

Another surgery is on deck for later in the week on a fractures left foot and ankle.

He made his late model debut as recently at 2018, at the age of 12. In 2019, Gray ran full-time in the CARS Tour, winning in his second start with the series.

The driver currently drives in the ARCA Menards Series for David Gilliland Racing. He’s picked up two top-5’s in two starts via the ARCA Menards Series East and sits 2nd in series standings.

The next ARCA East event is schedule for May 8th at Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway.

Additionally, Gray was schedule to make his NASCAR Truck Series debut in April. He was set to enter the race at Richmond Raceway on April 17th. The No. 17 has withdrawn his entry in the event.

Gray is expected to make a full recovery.
