Talladega crash sends Derrick Lancaster to hospital (Video)

Dollar wasn’t square to his bumper. As he drifted up off turn two, he got into the left rear of Lancaster instead of applying the bump draft to the car in his own lane.

Lancaster bounced off the car on the inside before the car was turned right into the outside wall. Upon impact, the car caught fire.

The car coasted the entire length of the back stretch while engulfed in flames. As the car came to a stop in turn three, the fire encased the entire car.

Lancaster was able to climb out. However, safety workers helped to place him on a stretcher before getting into the embulance.

The driver was then transported to a local hospital. He’s since been moved to the University of Alabama burn unit.

Elizabeth Lancaster provides medical update

Beth Lancaster is the wife of Derrick. She has provided the following updates via social media.

“I’ll try to keep everyone updated. Right now he is on a ventilator until they access the lung damage. He will be on it for at least 48 hours,” Beth Lancaster stated.

“2nd and 3rd degree burns to both arms, neck and face. Nothing internal as far as breaks or bleeding. They will debread his arms and take him to trauma unit where I’ll be able to lay eyes on him and touch him.”

She added, “He will not know I’m there but that’s ok. Please continue to pray. Please pray. He’s being flown to University of Alabama burn unit.”

She provided a second update on Sunday, April 25th (Around 7:00am):

“A little update… Critical but stable, no burns to the trachea or lungs … Praise God!”

“We will be on the ventilator for 48-72 hours to allow the lungs to recover from the extreme hear and so they can suction the soot out. Labs looking better every hour.”

“My family wants to thank you all for your prayers and support during this difficult time. We all stick together like glue so being 8 hours away is really hard on us. Please lift Derrick’s parents up in your prayer as well, they are have a very hard time not being able to be with him. Thank you all again and keep those prayers coming.”

Monday, April 26th update:

“I want to thank everyone again for their prayers and support,” Lancaster stated.

“Derrick remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition and he is still on a ventilator for another 2-4 days. They will begin weaning him from it when the tire is right.”

She concluded, “I will share another update tomorrow and continue to lean on your prayers and support.”
