NASCAR All-Star Race format for Texas announced

Six rounds setup interesting new take on the NASCAR All-Star Race at Texas Motor Speedway

On June 13, 2021 the NASCAR All-Star race will move to Texas Motor Speedway. It’s the first time the track with host the event.

Eddie Gossage made the announcement on NASCAR Race Hub.

“I never thought we’d have it. But, this is a big and important market for NASCAR racing, Gossage explained.

“Drivers and pit crews better pack their lunch pails because they are going to have to work extremely hard to earn the honor of celebrating in Victory Lane,” said Texas Motor Speedway president and GM Eddie Gossage, who also plans an old-timey, wild West motif for pre-race ceremonies. “This is a full metal rodeo for a big ol’ bag of dough.”

$900,000 will be handed to the race winner. An additional $100,000 will be presented to the fastest pit crew in a mandatory stop near the end of the race.

All-Star Open: Any team who isn’t already qualified will run the NASCAR Open qualifying race on June 13 at 6 p.m. ET. he Open will be run in three segments — 20 laps, 20 laps and a 10-lap shootout. Segment winners and the Open race winner will transfer into the All-Star Race. Additionally, one driver will advance via the Fan Vote.

Format

-6 Rounds

-100 Laps

-First Round: The starting lineup will be set by a random draw and last 15 laps.

-Second Round: The second round will also be 15 laps. Officials will then spin the wheel and invert a certain number of cars (min 8 car, max 12 cars).

-Third Round: The entire field will be inverted for a 15 lap round.

-Fourth Round: It will be another 15 laps with a random invert (min 8 car, max 12 cars).

-Fifth Round: Officials will take the accumulative finishes from the first four rounds. Whoever has the lowest finish will start on the pole. The round is 30 laps with a mandatory green flag pit stop for four tires. The fastest team from pit entry to pit exit will earn $100,000.

-Sixth Round: The final round will be just 10 laps, the winner takes $900,000 as 2nd takes $0.

The criteria for eligibility includes NASCAR Cup Series race winners in 2020-21 and full-time drivers who are either past All-Star winners or past Cup Series champions.
