NASCAR 2022 car shapes revealed (Video)

The NASCAR Next Gen car has been in development for a year; Now, we’re finally seeing what it actually looks like

NASCAR was originally scheduled to debut the Next Gen car during the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series season. However, circumstances beyond their control pushed the rollout to the 2022 season.

Watch the video below of the 2022 NASCAR race car.

There have been three different prototypes of the car. The final stage was reached months ago. Tests since have been for Goodyear to form compounds for the wider, low profile tires.

“I think that at the highest level, one of the main goals is just that the sport remains healthy and strong, that it remains attractive to our current OEMs, teams and fans, but also attracts new ones,” said John Probst, NASCAR’s senior vice president of racing innovation. “As we kind of dive into that, it’s sort of your overarching goal. Then we know to be attractive to our OEMs, we need to be relevant to them.”

NASCAR has made the promise to bring the stock back to stock car racing…

What we already knew:

– The chassis will be spec. All teams, regardless of manufacture will now use the same chassis and parts. This will drastically reduce development costs and lower the cost of entering the sport.

– The body is made of composite material. This allows for more contact on the track without the risk of tire puncture.

– The rearend features an independent rear suspension. That’s going to bring much more rear grip and be closer to cars on the showroom floors.

– The tires are much taller and much wider. Goodyear is expected to bring softer compounds that wear out in longer runs. It’s going to force drivers to take care of their tires.

– The front nose is off the ground in the center. The fenders hang down an extra few inches, forcing teams to keep the nose off the ground. This will drastically reduce downforce.

– Under the rear bumper is a defuser. This will be designed to guide and pull air under the car. It will also reduce the low pressure area behind the car, allowing closer racing and less dirty air.

However, all tests have been conducted using a standard nose and a standard rear bumper. The manufacture body shapes have been in production for several months. Yet, they haven’t been released to the public, until today.
