Dover Speedway: NASCAR Inspection Issues (May 2021)

NASCAR inspection penalties issued ahead of the race at Dover International Speedway

Today, the NASCAR Cup Series is unloaded in Dover, Delaware. Dover International Speedway is set to host the Drydene 400.

Teams have yet to touch the race track as no practice has been scheduled this weekend. However, all teams must roll through multiple NASCAR inspection points before being pushed to the grid.

Chase Elliott failed pre-race Dover inspection, twice. Per the rules, Elliott will lose his starting position and drop to the rear.

Additionally, Josh Berry is making his NASCAR Cup Series debut as he fills in for Justin Haley. Due to the driver change, the No. 77 will also drop to the rear of the field.

NASCAR Inspection Penalties (Rules)

1 NASCAR Inspection failure: No penalty, the team gets to go to the back of the inspection line and try again.

2 NASCAR inspection failure: If a team fails twice, NASCAR will send that car to the rear of the field.

3 NASCAR inspection failures: They have to start at the rear. In addition, the car has to serve a pass through penalty on pit lane at the start of the race.

Typically, NASCAR crew members are ejected on a second failure. However, due to a lack of practice and/or qualifying in recent events, series officials have given less-strict ejections for failed pre-race inspections.
