NASCAR drivers make their debut on Circuit of the Americas
Today, NASCAR’s newest road course is set for a digital debut. The NASCAR Cup Series stars are set to tackle Circuit of the Americas in an online race ahead of the real-world race weekend.
This is a caution free race. The setups are fixed and drivers have two resets to repair all damage. Circuit of the Americas stretches 3.41-miles over 20 corners.
James Davison and Anthony Alfredo line up on the front row. 32 laps of sim racing are up next…
COTA iRacing Report
Green flag, Davison throws a huge block on Alfredo into turn one and he holds the lead into turn two. Kyle Larson clips the wall and drops outside the top 20.
Lap 2, Davison leads Alfredo by 1.1 seconds at the completion of lap one. Byron looks inside of Reddick for 3rd into turn one, he takes that spot. Alfredo struggles off turn one and Byron has a look. Byron gets loose, Alfredo holds 2nd.
Lap 2, Brad Keselowski spins on his own and slams the wall.
Lap 10, Davison leads Alfredo by 7 seconds.
Lap 11, Ross Chastain has climbed from 30th to 11th. Bubba Wallace has climbed from 31st to 15th. Both of these cars had their qualifying laps disallowed due to contact and/or cutting the track.
Lap 15, green flag pit stops are underway. Most of the field is splitting this race in half with just one pit stop. Davison pits from the race lead.
Lap 16, Clint Bowyer misses the pit lane and catches James Davison in the process. Davison still leads and hasn’t picked up much damage.
Lap 19, Denny Hamlin and Michael McDowell make contact and McDowell is sent for a spin off the corner in the battle for 8th.
10 to go, Davison leads Alfredo by 10 seconds.
James Davison smokes them all on the Circuit of the Americas!
