Last week, it was announced that the state of North Carolina had included plans in state funding for construction at North Wilkesboro Speedway. The $25.9B budget has been signed into law with $40M going to race tracks in the state.

$18M of that is set for Wilkes County construction upgrades. That is specifically for North Wilkesboro Speedway.

Soon after, Marcus Smith commented that he intended to rebuild the track. He added that he hopes the track would host races once again.

Now, there’s signs of life at North Wilkesboro Speedway.

Less than a week later, construction has already began. Garbage has been burned in the center of the track and the Tyson suites in turn four are being demolished. Additionally, other older buildings are being torn down, likely for future plans of new buildings.

SMI hasn’t detailed further plans for construction of new buildings. However, any work at the facility that’s sat dormant for over a decade is likely a great sign of things on the near horizon.

Other tracks in the state budget include Charlotte Motor Speedway and Rockingham Speedway.

Save the Speedway has posted the following photos of the construction.
