Trevor Bayne returns to NASCAR in 2022

The Daytona 500 winner has landed a ride for the 2022 season

Trevor Bayne is a NASCAR Cup Series winner. He drove to victory lane in his second career start, winning the 2011 Daytona 500.

In the 2018 season, Matt Kenseth was signed to drive the No. 6 part time for Roush Fenway Racing. The team was struggling with performance and thought bringing in veteran talent would help them improve their program.

However, the signing of Bayne meant he was forced to share the No. 6 ride. Yet, Bayne later said that Kenseth said all the same things he was saying in regards to struggles with the car.

Bayne did not return to the team in 2019. He took a brief hiatus from the sport only to return for 8 Truck races in 2022.

The driver and his family opened up Mahalo Coffee Roasters. The coffee shop has two locations, both in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Now, Bayne is set for a return to the sport. He’s signed to drive for Joe Gibbs Racing in 7 races for the 2022 season via the NASCAR Xfinity Series.

“Over the past three years I didn’t know if I’d ever get an opportunity to race for wins again, but my desire to do so never faded,” Bayne said in a statement from the team. “I’m so excited to have this opportunity to work with Jason Ratcliff and everyone at JGR. I want nothing more than to come back stronger than ever and put that Devotion Nutrition GR Supra into victory lane.”

Bayne is likely to drive the No. 18 car.
