Kurt Busch will miss races at Watkins Glen and Daytona
In late July, Kurt Busch crashed off turn three at Pocono Raceway. He backed his No. 45 car into the fence and he’s been absent from the machine ever since due to a concussion.

Busch has missed races at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Michigan International Speedway and Richmond Raceway.
Now, he’ll add both Watkins Glen International and Daytona International Speedway to that list. The driver has stated that he plans to miss both upcoming races as he hopes to be ready for the playoffs.
Ty Gibbs will again fill the seat of the No. 45.
The regular season comes to a close at Daytona. Busch has a race win which tentatively locks him into a playoff run. That could change…
If both Watkins Glen and Daytona see a new season winner, then Busch will be knocked out of a playoff run.

Kurt Busch: Medical Update
“As much as I want to be in the car, the time is still not right,” Busch said in a statement.
“Over the last few weeks, I have focused all my efforts on getting better. And in order to fully focus my recovery on trying to be back for the Playoffs, I will not be competing in the next two races at Watkins Glen and Daytona.”
“This decision is not an easy one, but the right one. I need to be racing at 100%. I owe that to everyone at 23XI, all of our partners, my fellow competitors, and the fans.”
“It’s my goal to be back in the No. 45 Toyota Camry TRD to start the playoffs. I know Ty will continue to do a great job in my absence, and I appreciate that competitveness he’s brought to the track.”
Busch concluded, “I continue to be incredibly grateful for all the well-wishes and support. It truly means a lot.”
Busch is currently in his 23rd year of NASCAR Cup Series competition. The 44-year-old won the title back in 2004.
Only 16 drivers lock into the playoffs. A win traditionally locked a driver into the playoffs. However, there’s currently 15 different winners so far this season.
The NASCAR Playoffs begin in September at Darlington Raceway.
