Kyle Busch hints he’ll be outside Joe Gibbs Racing in 2023

Kyle Busch: “It will not look the same as what it has for the last 15 years.”

Kyle Busch has driven for Joe Gibbs Racing since 2008. He’s collected two championships along the way in 2015 and again as recently in 2019.

However, for 2023, the two-time champion’s future remains unknown. Mars Incorporated previously announced they’ll end their NASCAR sponsorship. At the same time, Kyle Busch’s contract is set to expire.

Kyle Busch hints at ‘Goodbye’ with Joe Gibbs Racing contract

Previously, JGR and Toyota have stated they’re exploring all options. For JGR, that includes using the sponsorship department of other teams to search for a new sponsor. For Toyota, they’ve explained that they’re doing everything possible to keep Ky. Busch in a Toyota.

Only 11 races remain before Busch becomes a free agent. And the doors at other teams are closing as Stewart-Haas Racing announced Cole Custer will pilot the No. 41 and Aric Almirola’s retirement will be paused as he returns for another year in the No. 10.

Meanwhile, Ty Gibbs is a driver on the rise. The grandson of team owner Joe Gibbs has won many Xfinity races and currently pilots the No. 45 NCS car as Kurt Busch recovers from a concussion.

It’s sounding more likely that Ty Gibbs pilots the No. 18 car in 2023.

“And the first time I went through this was 15 years ago and it was a learning experience,” Busch stated.

“It was hard then too, but it was nothing like now. Then it was just me, myself and I. I didn’t have Samantha (wife), I didn’t have a son, I didn’t have a daughter. All I had was an agent that was helping me.”

“I don’t feel like it’s fair to me or my family or anything else if we’re going to have to spend less time together moving forward because we are going to have to change our lifestyle, no questions.”

He clarified, “There’s a big change coming.”

“And so, is it worth it to go run around and not have an opportunity to win right away versus building something versus jumping in something that can win? All those questions are certainly being weighed out.”

“Again, that’s also why it’s not so simple and so easy. So, thankfully there are opportunities out there. There are Cup jobs available.”

Busch added, “But again, it will not look the same as what it has for the last 15 years.”
