Talladega Superspeedway inspection brings three penalties

This weekend, NASCAR returns to the 2.5-mile of Talladega Superspeedway. Ahead of Saturday qualifying, teams must roll through the inspection line.

On Friday, the teams went through the OSS inspection line. Three teams failed twice and have been handed penalties.

All three cars have lost pit selection. They’ve also lost a crew member following an ejection.

William Byron
Ejected: Tyler Jones (Car Chief)

Daniel Hemric
Ejected: Garrett Peterson (Car Chief)

No. 31
Justin Haley
Ejected: Jaron Antley (Car Chief)

William Byron is the only car of the three who’s competing in the NASCAR Playoffs. Byron was handed a 25-point penalty and a $50,000 fine after an incident with Denny Hamlin last week at Texas.

NASCAR Inspection Rules (Pre-Qualifying)

1 Inspection failure: No penalty, the team gets to go to the back of the inspection line and try again.

2 inspection failures: If a team fails twice, NASCAR will eject a crew member.

3 inspection failures: All of the above. They’ll also serve a pass-through penalty at the start of the race.
