Daytona Race Results: February 16, 2023 (Duels)

NASCAR race results from Daytona International Speedway

Tonight, two qualifying races are on deck in Daytona Beach, Florida. The field is split in half for two Daytona Duels and results will be used to set the Daytona 500 starting lineup.

Duel 1
Race Report

Alex Bowman and William Byron set the front row for the first Duel of the night. This race sets the inside lane for the Daytona 500. 60 laps of superspeedway racing are up next…

Green flag, Logano shoves Byron clear in turn two. Blaney shoves Bowman to the lead down the backstretch. Bowman pulls out of line, handing the lead to Blaney.

Lap 15, Blaney continues to lead with Bubba Wallace on his bumper. The top 10 have formed single file around the inside lane.

Lap 22, all of the Chevrolets hit the pit lane.

Pit Penalties: Chandler Smith and Ricky Stenhouse Jr have been caught speeding. They’ll serve a pass-through penalty.

Lap 31, Ryan Blaney and the rest of the field head for the pit lane. Joey Logano wins the race to the pit exit.

Pit Penalties: Ty Gibbs has been caught speeding and he’ll serve a pass-through penalty.

Lap 35, the Chevrolet line is led by William Byron. That group of 11 cars is 10 seconds behind the race leader. Pitting early wasn’t the right strategy. However, they’re closing on the lead group, slightly.

1 to go, multiple cars pull out of line at the front. Bell works under Harvick for 2nd off turn two. Logano blocks both lanes.

Bell looks to the outside of Logano in turn three! Side by side off turn four.

Race Report

Kyle Larson, Aric Almirola - Daytona International Speedway - NASCAR Cup Series

Conor Daly is having another mechanical issue. The rear end is bouncing around under the pace laps. Daly was unable to take part in qualifying yesterday due to a hole found in an oil line. Daly needs to race his way into the Daytona 500.

Kyle Larson and Aric Almirola set the front row for the second Duel of the night. 60 more laps of stock car racing are up next…

Green flag, they run even into turn one. Briscoe shoves Larson to the lead down the backstretch.

Lap 3, Briscoe gets loose off turn four with Kyle Busch on his bumper. The inside lane loses momentum and Aric Almirola powers to the lead on the outside.

Lap 5, Briscoe shoves Larson back to the lead.

Lap 7, the caution is out as Justin Haley has lost his right side window.

Green, Kyle Busch shoves Larson on the outside lane. Briscoe shoves Almirola on the inside. Larson wins the race to turn three.

Larson pulls to the inside lane and catches the front bumper of Almirola.

Lap 14, Daniel Suarez shoves Kyle Busch to the lead via the outside lane.

Lap 20, the field has formed single file around the inside lane. Kyle Busch leads Suarez at the front.

Lap 41

Lap 41, Suarez is pushing hard on the rear bumper of race leader Kyle Busch. Busch gets turned down the backstretch! He bounces off the outside wall and spins across the track. Multiple cars collect damage as they scatter. The caution is out.

Austin Hill is being pushed to the garage. He was one of the three cars racing to transfer into the Daytona 500.

Suarez leads the field to the pit lane. He misses his pit stall and he’s forced to backup. Larson wins the race to the pit exit.

Green, Larson and Almirola run side by side in turn one. Almirola gets loose after a push from Keselowski down the back. Almirola lifts and Larson takes the lead.

12 to go, Larson bobbles on the inside lane. Almirola returns to the lead.

6 to go, Todd Gilliland shoves Austin Cindric even with Almirola at the front.

4 to go, Gilliland shoves Cindric to the rear lead. They both drop to the inside lane.

3 to go, Cindric throws a huge block on Corey LaJoie who had a run on the outside lane. Briscoe nearly spins. Todd Gilliland takes over the lead.

2 to go, Almirola pulls out of line.

1 to go, Cindric lines up the bumper of Almirola. Gilliland gets loose on the inside lane after a push from Larson! Almirola takes over the lead.
