Cody Ware pulled from car ahead of Bristol Dirt race

Matt Crafton will field the No. 51 in the NASCAR Cup Series this weekend citing personal matter for Cody Ware

This weekend, NASCAR is racing in Bristol, Tennessee. The half-mile concrete oval has been covered in dirt for the only dirt race in the NASCAR Cup Series.

Cody Ware has driven for Rick Ware Racing since 2017. Cody has driven full-time in the series since 2021.

However, Cody Ware is set to miss this weekends event. Matt Crafton will fill-in and drive the No. 51 in the NASCAR Cup Series.

Crafton has run two NASCAR Cup Series race in his career. The last came in 2019 where he finished 25th at Martinsville Speedway.

Rick Ware Racing Statement

On Saturday, the team issued the following statement:

“Cody Ware will step away from racing this weekend at Bristol Motor Speedway to focus on a personal matter,” the statement opened.

“Matt Crafton will drive the No. 51 Ford Mustang for Rick Ware Racing. Crafton has more than 500 overall-starts in his NASCAR career, winning back-to-back NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series championships in 2013 and 2014.”

“The Ware family asks that their privacy be respected during this time.”
