Race Report
Green flag, Kirkwood leads out of turn one. Ericsson works to his outside but he can’t complete the pass. Helio Castroneves slams the wall behind them, full course caution.
Green, Kirkwood leads Ericsson on the single file restart.
Lap 7, Callum Ilott picks up a flat tire after contact with the wall and he heads for the pit lane under green.
Lap 19, Newgarden has a run on Grosjean into turn one. He dives inside and takes 3rd away. Newgarden is the car on the move.
Lap 20, Pato O’Ward dives inside of Scott Dixon for 6th. They bang wheels and Dixon is nose first into the tire barrier. The caution is back out.
The field heads for the pit lane. Kirkwood wins the race to the pit exit as Newgarden jumps a spot to 2nd.
Green, Canapino stayed out and he leads the field at the restart. O’Ward dives inside of Kirkwood into turn 8. O’Ward spins in front of the field after they bang wheels! No caution as the field somehow avoided all of them. Josef Newgarden takes over the race lead!
Lap 45, Pedersen spins and stalls. No caution as the safety team is able to get him restarted.
Lap 52, Newgarden pits from the race lead for what should be the final time.
Lap 55, Kyle Kirwood cycles to the race lead! Grosjean runs 2nd as Newgarden is 3rd.
25 to go, Kirkwood leads Grosjean by 1 second. Newgarden is fading.
10 to go, Kirkwood maintains the gap. Ericsson is closing on Grosjean in the battle for 2nd.
1 to go, Alexander Rossi is stuck in the tire barrier.
