Stefan Wilson and Katherine Legge crashed in Indy 500 practice at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway
On Monday, cars were on track for Indianapolis 500 practice. It’s day 7 of practice at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

With 48 minutes remaining in the session, Katherine Legge had a huge run on Stefan Wilson. She drove right into the back of him and both cars slammed the outside wall.
“You could see that coming from a mile away,” the NBC Sports announcer stated as it happened.
Both cars were destroyed.
Legge was able to climb from her machine. She was evaluated and released from the care center at the track.
The safety team gathered around the car driven by Wilson. He was then placed on a stretcher and transported to a local hospital for evaluation.
Wilson has since been diagnosed with a fractured vertebrae.
Team Statement
Wilson qualified 25th at 231.648 mph but will not take part in the event due to the crash.
“Update on driver Stefan Wilson following his incident Monday with Katherine Legge during the afternoon practice session at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.”
“At 2:11pm, Wilson, driving the No. 24 Dreyer & Reinbold Racing/Cusick Motorsports/CareKeepers Chevrolet, was struck from behind by Legge’s Indycar and forced into the outside safer barrier in turn one at the 2.5-mile oval.”
“After being transported to IU Health Methodist Hospital for further tests, it was disclosed that Wilson suffered a fracture of the 12th thoracic vertebrae and will stay overnight at the hospital for further tests and observation.”
“Based on this type of injury, Wilson will not be allowed to compete in this Sunday’s 107th Indianapolis 500 Mile Race.”
“The Dreter & Reinbold Racing/Cusick Motorsports team will have more information in due course.”
Wilson is a 33-year-old driver from Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England.
The Indy 500 will take place on May 28th, 2023.
