Kevin Harvick to fill seat for Kyle Larson at North Wilkesboro

Kevin Harvick will fill in for Kyle Larson in his NASCAR return

NASCAR driver Kyle Larson is set to make his debut in the Indycar Series via the famed Indy 500.

Qualifying for the Indianapolis 500 will take place the same weekend as the NASCAR All-Star race at North Wilkesboro Speedway. There’s a slight scheduling conflict.

Larson will not be able to take part in NASCAR practice or qualifying on Friday at North Wilkesboro Speedway. Hendrick Motorsports has pulled Kevin Harvick out of retirement to fill the seat of the No. 5 for those sessions.

Heat races are scheduled for Saturday. Larson might also be required to miss those heats and in that case, Harvick would remain the reserve driver.

Larson is the defending winner of the $1 million to win All-Star event.

Kevin Harvick comments

“When Rick (Hendrick) called a couple of days ago and said, ‘Hey, I need a favor.’ I know when the conversation starts like that usually you have to say yes,” Harvick said. “I appreciate you guys calling. It’s going to be fun.”

“t’s going to be fun. I won’t be able to use the seat though,,” Harvick joked about the size of Larson’s seat.

“We’ve been trying to find drivers and stuff to replace me in the seat for practice,” Larson stated via a team release.

“We decided to go with Kevin Harvick. He is going to practice the 5. The whole team is excited.”

Harvick retired from NASCAR Cup Series competition following the 2023 season. He won 60 races throughout his career.
