Erik Jones cleared to race but he remains out of car this week

Corey Heim will race for Legacy Motor Club at Kansas Speedway despite Jones being cleared by doctors

Nearly two weeks ago, Erik Jones suffered a significant crash at Talladega Superspeedway. A bump draft gone wrong sent Jones nose first into the outside wall.

The driver came on the radio stating, “I need help.”

Jones was taken to the infield care center and he was soon released. The driver then gave a tv interview and appeared to be ok.

The driver was then transported to a local hospital for further evaluations. We was released late Sunday night.

On Monday, Jones returned to Charlotte. He visited a specialist and it was discovered he suffered a compression fracture in a lower vertebra.

Last week at Dover, Legacy Motor Club put relief driver Corey Heim in the No. 43. Jones still visited the track but he was not cleared to race.

Heading into this weekend at Kansas Speedway, Jones has officially been cleared to return to the car. However, he will not do so.

Out of caution, Heim will again drive the No. 43. Jones is now expected to make his return next weekend.
