In stage two, John Hunter Nemechek spun to bring out a caution. The entire field hit the pit lane for new tires ahead of the restart.

As they went back green, William Byron, Martin Truex Jr and Ryan Blaney formed three wide for 4th. However, they track tightens up at the exit of turn two. They were soon to be out of room.

Byron chased the nose of his car up the track. He clipped Truex Jr. As Truex Jr was shoved wide, he stuffed Blaney into the outside wall.

Blaney bounced hard off the turn two wall. Truex Jr then drove hard into the bumper of Blaney after the contact with the wall, picking up more damage.

The No. 12 team made repairs on Blaney’s car. The driver exited the pit lane, gased it up and looked to be heading right into the left side of Byron.

At the last second, Blaney turned left thinking better of retaliation under caution. He just gave him a flyby.

However, moments later, the team was notified they had exceeded the allowed time to make repairs. Per those rules, Blaney was forced to the garage, ending his day.

William Byron and his crew had a different conversation:

Byron stated over the radio, “Yeah, I don’t know. I was like ahead, in that spot.”

The No. 24 team responded, “I’m sure if you were in the other seat, you’d think the other way. You definitely didn’t touch him, he shoved up a little bit too.”

Byron added, “I hate it, I feel like they were pretty far back on my door.”

Ryan Blaney comments after climbing from the car

“I was just mad I ended up in the fence and wrecked,” Ryan Blaney told Fox Sports after exiting the care center.

“He shoved it three wide under us and just get tight off turn two. And, I got tagged and ended up getting wrecked.”

“Well, he used up a little more racetrack than I thought. So, I kinda have a right to be mad. And he gets away Scott-free.”

Blaney added, “We had something to work with and I was excited to start the second half of the race.”
