Scott Bloomquist passed on Friday; Tyler Reddick won the NASCAR Cup Series race at Michigan on Monday
On Friday, the racing world lost a legend. Scott Bloomquist died in a plane crash on his property in Tennessee.
Tyler Reddick made his NASCAR Cup Series debut in 2019 at age 23. He’s now claimed 7 race wins in 170 starts.
Reddick climbed through the dirt racing ranks before reaching NASCAR. At age 15, Reddick was driving dirt late models built by Bloomquist.
Bloomquist was a mentor to the young Reddick.
“I learned so much about racecars with him. He taught me a lot of things outside of racing, just in life,” Reddick told Bob Pockrass before the weekend’s race.

“Probably one of my favorite things about him is just he’s not afraid of confrontation. If you do something wrong to him or if there’s a dispute about something going on. It’s easy for people in this day and age to back away from it.”
“He was never that way. If there was something going in, he was going to address it. And he’s not going to be shy about it.”
Due to Sunday’s rain shower, the NASCAR race at Michigan International Speedway was completed today. Reddick drove to victory lane and Bloomquist was on his mind…

“It’s been a minute. But, I can’t help but sit here in victory lane and think of Scott Bloomquist. Huge mentor to me and an incredible role model. Legend of dirt racing and motorsports.”
“The last couple days have been tough. This really helps it. This win should go for him, his family and his friends and all that meant a lot to him.”
“It’s always tough when someone you care about passes away. But, my thoughts are with him and his family.”
