Race Report
Green flag, Kirkwood clears Newgarden.
Will Power hits the pit lane for an unscheduled stop. He has loose seatbelts. He’ll go several laps down as he’s in a championship battle.
Lap 55, Kirkwood pits from the lead.
Lap 56, Felix Rosenqvist is in the outside wall after picking up a flat tire. The caution is out!
Newgarden and the rest of the cars who have yet to pit dive for the pit lane. Newgarden holds the race lead, Kirkwood restarts 10th.
Green, Newgarden leads as Herta and Malukas run side by side for 2nd. Herta wins that battle.
Lap 69, Herta works to the outside of Newgarden. Battle for the lead! Newgarden holds him off for now.
Lap 89, Katherine Legge spins off turn four and slides through the grass. The caution is out.
Most of the leaders head for the pit lane. Rossi stays out.
Green, Rossi leads Newgarden.
Lap 124, Rossi pits from the race lead.
Lap 135, Marcus Ericsson is in the turn four wall! The caution is out.
Newgarden and most of the field heads for the pit lane. O’Ward takes over the race lead.
Green, O’Ward leads Newgarden into turn one. Malukas dives inside of Newgarden and he takes 2nd away! Newgarden falls to 4th.
Lap 163, O’Ward heads for the pit lane. Herta is handed the race lead.
Lap 181, Herta pits from the lead.
22 to go, Kirkwood leads Malukas and Palou by 5 seconds. All three have yet to pit. O’Ward runs 6th, 25 seconds behind the leader.
Newgarden and McLaughlin rub wheels in the battle for 8th.
12 to go, Kirkwood pits from the lead. Malukas leads Palou and O’Ward.
7 to go, O’Ward and Herta race through lap traffic. O’Ward takes over 2nd as they sweep around Palou.
6 to go, Malukas heads for the pit lane. O’Ward is handed the race lead.
5 to go, O’Ward is forced wide by a lap car! Herta has a run and looks inside of O’Ward. Herta to the lead!
Colton Herta wins at Nashville Superspeedway! Alex Palou is the 2024 season champion!
