Late in the race, Cole Custer and Chandler Smith played bumper tag while running inside the top 5.
“What goes around comes around,” Cole Custer stated over the team radio.
Custer was true to his word. When he returned to Smith, he locked onto him bumper and sent him up the track.
After the race, Smith climbed from his car. He walked right to the No. 10 driver.
Both drivers screamed at each other. Then, Smith threw some version of a punch at Custer.
Crews from both teams stepped in and quickly separated the drivers.

Cole Custer comments
“He’s not happy. But, at the end of the day, he’s put us in the wall a few times this year and his mistakes caught up with him,” Cole Custer told NBC Sports.
“He used the bumper on me. I used the bumper on him. What comes around goes around in this deal.”
“He put us in the wall a few times this year. He kept us from winning a race at Kansas.” Custer added, “He uses the bumper on me, I used the bumper on him. I don’t know how we’re not even.”
“Then, he punches me in the face. I can’t even really tell if he punched me in the face, it was so soft.”
Cole Custer is one of four drivers that will battle for a championship next week.

Chandler Smith comments
“I was planning to do a lot more than that to be completely honest with you,” Chandler Smith stated.
Smith added, “I was extremely pissed off. I gave him 5 laps before that caution came out and beat his bumper off. Never shipped him or anything like that.”
“Then it’s like, ‘Okay, the laps are winding down.’ I’m in a must win. The No. 20 was starting to drive away. I can’t waste anymore time with him.”
“I finally had a good enough run and pushed him up the racetrack. Went on our way. But, I gave him a chance for 5 laps before that.”
“He didn’t even give me a chance to make the corner into turn one. Funny enough, the restart after that, he picks right behind me again.”
Chandler Smith was eliminated from the playoffs battle.
