On the final lap, Alex Bowman was told to take care of his tires

On Sunday, NASCAR raced on the Charlotte Motor Speedway road course. The race results would determine the four drivers that will be eliminated of the twelve playoff drivers remaining in the championship battle.

On the final lap, Denny Hamlin passed Ross Chastain. That pass put Chastain in the playoff elimination zone at the checkered flag.

At the same time, Alex Bowman, the driver directly behind them was being told interesting messages over the team radio.

No. 88 Team Radio Communications

No. 88 Team: “Taking care of it. Taking care of them.”

The team added, “Easy with it. Take care of your tires here.”

Again, this was the final lap of the race.

As Bowman pulled right to the bumper of Chastain they clarified, “Take care of your tires. No pressure.”

As Bowman rolled into the final corner, “Still no pressure. Got one that’s spun past the start/finish all by itself.”

Alex Bowman and Ross Chastain are both Team Chevy drivers. Bowman drives for Hendrick Motorsports while Chastain drives for Trackhouse Racing.

In the final corner, Chastain drove it deep into the corner, crashing Denny Hamlin as well as himself. Chastain put it in reverse and found the finish line but he was ultimately eliminated from the next round of the playoffs.

How about the Ford Racing side of the isle?

Joey Logano was the driver in the battle with Ross Chastain for the final advancing position in the playoff battle.

Cole Custer was directly behind Joey Logano in the closing laps. Both drivers race for Ford with Custer driving for the Haas Factory Team and Logano driving for Team Penske.

No. 41 Team Radio: “Andy, you got your watch on?”

Within seconds of that radio communication, the team relayed to their driver.

“Nice and easy here, bud. Nice and easy.”

At this point, they were at three laps remaining.

They added, “We can save our tires here for a late race restart.”

NASCAR typically releases a weekly penalty report on Tuesday or Wednesday after the race.
