Las Vegas Race Results: October 16, 2022 (NASCAR Cup Series)

NASCAR race results from Las Vegas Motor Speedway

Today, the NASCAR Cup Series is on the grid in Las Vegas, Nevada. The 1.5-mile of Las Vegas Motor Speedway is set to host the South Point 400. It’s the opening race in the Round of 8 for the NASCAR Playoffs.

Stage 1 – Report

Laps: 80 (1-80 / 267)

Green flag, they run even into turn one and off turn two.

Lap 3, Reddick drives it deep to the bottom in turn one and he finally clears Cindric to take the lead.

Lap 34, Cindric has closed back to the bumper of Reddick. Cindric dives inside in turn one.

Lap 43, the first green flag pit cycle is complete. Daniel Suarez cycles to the lead as he pitted four laps earlier than most of the leaders, Bubba Wallace runs 2nd.

Lap 57, Bubba Wallace has run down the bumper of Suarez. He dives to the inside and takes over the race lead.

3 to go in stage one, Kyle Busch spins from 6th off turn four! The caution is out.

Bubba Wallace wins stage one as it finishes under caution.

Stage 2 – Report

Laps: 85 (81-165 / 267)

Green flag on stage two, Wallace and Suarez run side by side into turn one as they run three wide behind them. Chastain shoves Suarez to the lead off turn two.

Lap 95, Kyle Larson runs Bubba Wallace wide off turn four! Wallace bounces off the wall, turns hard left, hooks him in the right rear and Larson is turned back into the fence. The caution is out.

Wallace walks over and approaches Larson with his arms in the air. Wallace his helmet and attacks Larson with several shoves.

Suarez leads the field to the pit lane. Hamlin wins the race to the pit exit.

Green, Ricky Stenhouse Jr spins into turn one, caution.

Green, Suarez is clear into turn one. Ross Chastain works to his right rear in turn three and Chastain takes the lead off turn four.

Lap 128, Blaney has caught the bumper of Chastain. Chastain moves to the top as he’s on defence. Blaney drives to the inside into turn one and he completes the pass with a slider in turn three. Blaney to the lead.

Stage 3 – Report

Laps: 102 (166-267 / 267)

Blaney leads the field to the pit lane but Logano wins the race to the pit exit.

Green flag on stage two, Logano clears Hamlin into turn one. They run four wide behind them. Blaney takes 2nd away into turn three.

84 to go, Blaney has caught the bumper of Logano in the battle for the lead. Logano holds him off.

74 to go, JJ Yeley spins off turn four, caution.

Logano leads the field to the pit lane. Slow stop for him as Chastain wins the race to the pit exit. Reddick returns to the pit lane as the crew thought a lug was loose.

Green, Chastain and Blaney run side by side into turn one. Chastain wins the battle on the inside lane.

67 to go, Byron bottom out, gets loose and runs Blaney up the banking. They both slow and they run four wide for 2nd down the back. Almirola takes over 2nd into turn three.

50 to go, Chastain leads Almirola by 1 second.

Blaney to 2nd.

40 to go, Blaney gets loose, chases it up the banking and tags the outside wall in turn two. He spins, slides across the track and tags the inside wall.

Chastain leads the field to the pit lane. Haley wins the race to the pit exit with a two tire call. Kyle Busch loses a left front wheel after exiting the pit lane.

Green, Haley clears them into turn one as Briscoe takes over 2nd.

28 to go

28 to go, Reddick slides Suarez for 3rd into turn three. They fight for space off the corner. Suarez spins and the caution is out!

The top 8 stay out. Most of the cars behind them head for the pits.

Green flag, Haley and Briscoe run even into turn one. They remain side by side into turn three. Landon Cassill spins behind them, caution.

Green, Haley and Briscoe run door to door for the lead as they run four wide behind them. Chastain has a run on both of them into turn three, he dives deep to the bottom in turn three. Chastain drives from 3rd to 1st and he leads back to the line.

12 to go, Kyle Busch is flying through the field and up to 4th. After losing a tire he’s charged from the back of the field in about 25 laps.

10 to go, Logano clears Briscoe in turn three. Chastain leads by 1 second.

8 to go, Logano is closing on Chastain! Logano’s tires are 13 laps fresher.

6 to go, Logano is on the bumper of Chastain. Logano looks to the outside, Chastain throws a huge block!

4 to go, Chastain blocks another run. Kyle Busch slides Briscoe for 3rd.

3 to go, Logano works inside of Chastain they run side by side into turn one. Logano slides him and slams the door shut off turn two.

1 to go, Chastain blocks Kyle Busch off turn four in the battle for 2nd. Busch gets tight and tags the wall off the final corner.
