Race Report

Green flag, Rosenqvist gets the jump and he’s clear before turn one. Dixon has a run into turn three. Dixon heads for the outside lane and drives right by off turn four, Dixon leads lap 1.

Lap 3, Newgarden has a run on Dixon off turn four. Newgarden heads to the top in turn one, Dixon to the lead.

Lap 4, Dixon has another run. Dixon returns to the lead with another outside lane pass.

Lap 5, Newgarden back to the lead with another outside lane pass into turn one.

Lap 48, Takuma Sato takes it three wide on the outside off turn two. He gets loose, tags the wall and slides toward the inside wall, caution.

Alexander Rossi and Kyle Kirkwood make contact on the pit lane.

Penalty: Rossi will serve a pass-through for an unsafe release.

Green, Newgarden leads as Alex Palou takes 2nd away into turn one. Palou looks to the outside of Newgarden for the race lead. Newgarden holds him off.

Palou finally completes the pass and takes the lead away. Newgarden quickly takes the lead right back.

Lap 102, Kyle Kirkwood heads to the pit lane. He climbs out of the car with damage and he’s out of the race.

Lap 118, a green flag pit cycle is complete. Newgarden cycles back to the lead as Pato O’Ward trails by 2.5 seconds.

Lap 129, O’Ward has climbed to the gearbox of Newgarden. O’Ward looks to the outside and drives right by, O’Ward to the lead!

Lap 150, O’Ward is driving away and he leads Newgarden by 5 seconds. Only 4 cars remain on the lead lap as 5th place running Scott Dixon goes a lap down.

90 to go, O’Ward laps Romain Grosjean, make it just two cars on the lead lap.

75 to go

75 to go, another pit cycle is complete. O’Ward leads Newgarden by 6 seconds.

Felix Rosenqvist runs wide in turn four. He loses the car in the marbles and slams the outside wall. The caution is out.

Many cars take the wave around, 8 cars are now on the lead lap. Everyone but O’Ward pits for a second time to top off on fuel. O’Ward will have less fuel than the rest of the leaders.

Green, O’Ward leads Newgarden on the single file restart.

56 to go, Newgarden has a run on O’Ward. Newgarden looks to the outside. Palou has a run on both of them off turn three, three wide for the lead into turn three, Palou to the lead!

52 to go, Newgarden looks outside of Palou into turn one. Newgarden to the lead!

50 to go, Palou back to the lead. The top 8 run nose to wing with fresh tires.

47 to go, Colton Herta works outside of Palou, Herta to the lead on the outside. Everyone is saving fuel and it’s bunched up the pack.

44 to go, O’Ward drives around the outside of Herta, O’Ward back to the lead. Palou quickly retakes the lead.

41 to go

41 to go, Sting Ray Robb is in the wall off turn two. The car darts toward the inside wall and he makes a heavy impact, caution.

O’Ward, Newgarden and others head for the pit lane. Alex Palou, Romain Grosjean, Colton Herta and Scott Dixon stay out.

Green, Palou leads Grosjean into turn one. Grosjean and Herta rub wheels for 2nd off turn two!

30 to go, Grosjean dives inside of Palou for the lead in turn three. O’Ward has climbed to 3rd in a hurry.

29 to go, Palou and Grosjean run side by side for the lead into turn three. O’Ward dives inside of both, three wide for the lead. O’Ward leads them off turn four.

27 to go, Devlin DeFrancesco brushes the wall off turn two and he enters turn three with a broken machine. Graham Rahal launches right over the back of him with nowhere to go and both cars slam the outside wall. The caution is out.

Green with 12 to go, O’Ward leads Palou off turn two. Palou dives inside into turn three, Palou to the lead!

11 to go, O’Ward works to the outside of Palou into turn one. He can’t complete the pass, O’Ward falls to 3rd.

9 to go, Newgarden looks outside of Palou in turn one. Newgarden completes the pass, O’Ward follows him through to take 2nd.

8 to go, O’Ward looks outside of Newgarden in turn three. Side by side for the win, Newgarden holds him off.

5 to go, O’Ward looks outside once more. He can’t complete the pass.

3 to go, O’Ward and Newgarden fight for space into turn one! They nearly tangle.

2 to go, Romain Grosjean spins off turn two and slams the wall. The caution is out.
