Today, the green flag drops on the Great American Race. It’s the Daytona 500 for the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series. 200 laps around the 2.5-mile oval of Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida.

It’s the youngest front row in the history of the event. William Byron and Alex Bowman lead them to the flag stand.

Stage 1 – Report

Laps: 60

Green flag, William Byron gets the jump on the inside. He moves to the top before turn one.

Lap 3, Ricky Stenhouse Jr is making the bottom lane work. He pulls even with the leader to lead this lap. Byron pinches him to defend.

Lap 15, Ricky Stenhouse Jr leads. William Byron has fallen through the middle of the field. The Ford’s hit the pit lane.

Lap 21, Corey LaJoie has a flat right front. The caution is out. The rest of the field comes to the pit lane. Stenhouse cycles to the lead.

Green, Stenhouse leads on the bottom lane.

Lap 35, Kyle Busch started 31st. He’s now looking for the lead on the bottom lane. He has help from Denny Hamlin.

Lap 49, Kurt Busck tries to slot in front of Ricky Stenhouse Jr. He pinched Stenhouse and the air on his left rear turned him around. Busch went around in front of the field and collected Bubba Wallace and Jamie McMurray. Several cars head for the pits.

Green, Busch leads. The top 10 form single file around the bottom.

Final lap in stage 1, Logano is coming on the outside lane. Bowman pulls up to catch the front bumper of Logano. Kyle Busch blocks their run off turn four.

Stage 2 – Report

Laps: 60

The field heads to the pit lane. Busch is first in and out in fourth. David Ragan is out first with fuel only. Logano and 13 others stayed out. Elliott and Bowman return to the pit lane with issues.

Green flag on stage two, Harvick gives a shove to Daniel Suarez. They lead on the outside lane. Logano fights back on the inside to reclaim the lead.

Lap 73, the cars who didn’t pit at the end of the stage come to the pit lane under green. Paul Menard and David Ragan are handed a penalty for speeding on pit road. DiBenedetto leads Kyle Busch. It’s a six car breakaway at the front.

Lap 100, the lead group of six cars has caught the tail end of a group of 20 who run two by two ahead. That group is the tail end of the lead lap.

Lap 106, two cars tangle. The caution is out. The leaders head for the pit lane. Kyle Busch leads that group to the pit exit. Blaney, Keselowski and two others stayed out.

Green, Blaney leads Keselowski.

5 to go in stage 2, Menard and Keselowski block both lanes in tandem.

Final lap, Byron worls to the right rear of Keselowski. He pulls to the bumper of the leader. Ryan Blaney holds on to win stage two at Daytona International Speedway!

Half the field comes to the pit lane. William Byron will lead them to the restart.

Green flag on stage 3, Almirola leads off turn two. Byron fights back on the outside. Lap 128, Two by two through the entire field. Lap 132, Byron and Harvick lead on the bottom.

52 to go, Byron and Johnson run side by side at the front.

41 to go, BJ McLeod is on the brakes while coming to pit road. Cody Ware gets into the back of him. They pit through the entry to the pit lane and collect Johnson and Stenhouse.

Many head to the pit lane. Truex has too many men over the wall, penalty. Jamie McMurray and Denny Hamlin lead the field to the green.

Green, Hamlin noses ahead on the top. McMurray has nose damage on the bottom lane. Three wide for 5th on back.

Hamlin takes the lead, Busch and Jones follow. Everyone is three wide behind them.

27 to go, the caution is out for debris.

Green, Hamlin leads on the bottom with help from Kyle Busch. The top 5 form single file.

20 to go, they field is single file around the top. We saw this all week but we haven’t seen it at all today, until now.

Larson is around into turn three. He cut a tire and did a 360 across the track. Light contact with the wall.

Green flag, Kyle Busch is late to the gas on the bottom. His teammate, Hamlin drops from the top to the bottom. They lead around the inside.

14 to go, the top 14 cars run single file around the bottom. Keselowski looses a tire, he spins like a top just before the tri-oval, no damage but he doesn’t have a starter.

Green, Busch drags the brake pedal as Bowyer is all over his bumper. Hamlin comes across his bumper to lead on the bottom. Hamlin pulls back up to block the top lane. Kyle Busch noses ahead on the bottom.

Big one at Daytona International Speedway

Huge crash behind them! Paul Menard was pushing on the right side rear bumper of DiBenedetto. That turned him into turn three. Those two were at the front of the top lane, everybody in the outside line is collected.

All drivers have climbed from their cars. The red flag is out.

Green flag, Busch and Hamlin lead on the bottom. Joey Logano is pushing on McDowell, he almost turned him. That would have been a replay of the last crash.

They’re crashing behind them. Larson checkup up for the contact ahead, Stenhouse Jr looks to the middle to avoid it. Larson comes down and several cars spin in turn three.

Green, Busch and Hamlin run door to door at the front. Bowyer makes it three wide for fourth into turn three. He comes up a little and spins himself across the nose of McDowell.

The red flag is back out.

Daytona 500 Overtime

Green, Busch lifts and lets Hamlin in on the bottom. Logano gives a huge push to Busch off turn two.

1 to go, Hamlin leads Busch. Logano dives to the inside of Busch, he takes 2nd.

Denny Hamlin wins the Daytona 500! It’s his second career win in The Great American Race.
