Chicagoland Impound Inspection: This is an impound race. That means post-qualifying inspection will double as pre-race inspection. After qualifying, the cars will be impounded by NASCAR.
On Sunday morning, the cars will line up in front of the inspection tent. Cars will need to pass tech tomorrow for their qualifying times from today to be official.
In other words, the lineup set following tonight’s qualifying session will not become official until Sunday morning.
The field has been split into two groups, sort of. The top 20 from last week’s qualifying session sit in the final group and their order in this session is set by random draw. The first group are the bottom 18 qualifiers from the week prior.

Qualifying – Report
Duration: 1 lap
It’s single car qualifying. They’ll get just one lap to set they’re time.
Harvick was one of the fastest cars in both practice sessions earlier today. He was also quickest in long runs. The #4 car bobbled into turn one on his qualifying lap. He sits at the top of the board now but only 6 cars have set a time.
Austin Dillon is the 11th car to take a time. He cuts the entry to turn three, several feet off the wall to shorter the track while still rolling the corner. This new package allows that. Dillon jumps to the top.
Fast times after group A: 1. Austin Dillon (30.636); 2. Kevin Harvick (30.666); 3. Daniel Hemric (30.689); 4. Brad Keselowski (30.881); 5. Ryan Newman (30.940); 6. Ty Dillon (31.067); 7. Erik Jones (31.070); 8. Matt Tifft (31.084); 9. Paul Menard (31.170); 10. Bubba Wallace (31.194);
They’re halfway through group B. Thus far, the first group has outperformed most of the cars in group B. The track might have lost speed or these cars are focused more on race trim.
10 cars remain, Austin Dillon remains at the top. Joey Logano is likely the largest threat for the pole based on times from practice.
Byron was hanging close to pole pace heading into turn one. He wobbled in the middle of the corner and lost a tenth.
Same thing for Hamlin, he was trending quicker than pole heading into turn one. Hamlin lost a tenth off turn two.
Joey Logano lands 4 tenths slower than pole speed. He sits 16th after his lap. Dillon might just hold them off.
Austin Dillon will start from the pole in the Camping World 400 following NASCAR quialifying at Chicagoland!
