Next up, Daytona International Speedway puts the entire field on the track for the first time in 2020. It’s the opening round of Daytona 500 practice for the NASCAR Cup Series.

This is a qualifying practice session. It’s one of two sessions scheduled ahead of tomorrow’s Daytona 500 qualifying session.
However, there are no practice session between qualifying and the duels. So, some teams will be working on race trim.
Cole Custer, Christopher Bell and Tyler Reddick will all be making their debut as full-time drivers in the NASCAR Cup Series. Bell will be making his first Cup start at Daytona.
42 cars have unloaded in the garage area.

Practice – Report
Duration: 50 minutes
The green is out on the session.
5 minutes in, Erik Jones sits at the top of the board. He led Clash practice earlier.
30 minutes remain, Joe Gibbs Racing and a few others have hit the track and lined up nose to tail. All 7 of these cars are about to jump to the top of the board.
In fact they do, Denny Hamlin to the top.
Ross Chastain has an issue during his run. Light smoke flies out of the rear deck lid. He heads to the garage.

Halfway in Daytona Practice: 1. Denny Hamlin (202.65 mph); 2. Erik Jones (202.52 mph); 3. Ty Dillon (202.38 mph); 4. Martin Truex Jr (202.38 mph); 5. Kyle Busch (202.19 mph); 6. Ty Dillon is at the tail of the Toyota line. He jumps to the top of the board. All of these cars are in race trim.
Kyle Busch makes an aggressive move on his teammate Denny Hamlin. Busch pulled out of line, dumped air on the left side rear spoiler on Hamlin car and he drove by. Busch pulled out of line in the corner to make it happen. He completed the pass without help.
16 minutes remain, Denny Hamlin is all over the bumper of Suarez off turn four. Suarez is all over the steering wheel and the hand is out the window in no time.
“If I didn’t put my hand out the window, he was going to spin me out. If that’s going to be the way we’re going to race…,” Suarez radio.
“That’s Hamlin for ya,” the Suarez crew responds.
10 minutes remain, a large group have formed on the track. 11 cars run two by two. As they begin to dice and run three wide, Dillon remains at the top of the board.
Ty Dillon wins the opening round of Daytona 500 race. But, it’s still more than a week before the green flag drops on the race.
