Knoxville
Main Event – Report

The field lines up in a four wide salute for the Iowa dirt racing fans. 25 laps of sprint car racing are up next…

Green, they run even at the line. Gravel noses ahead on the inside line as they roll into turn one for the first time.

Lap 3, Larson is on the bumper of Abreu for 2nd. He tries the bottom, slides him but can’t clear him. Abreu drives back by on the outside.

Lap 5, Gravel opens the gap. Larson keeps the pressure on Abreu for 2nd. Whatever lane Abreu runs, Larson does the opposite.

Lap 6, trouble for Brian Brown and the caution is out. Brown was in 4th.

Green, Gravel leads. Larson pops a wheelie at the launch, the car goes straight with no front wheels on the ground and he stuffs Spencer Bayston into the outside wall at the start finish line. Front suspension damage for Bayston and the caution is out.

Green, Gravel leads. Larson slides Abreu for 2nd in turn three. Abreu crosses under him to fight back.

They cross multiple times. Larson finally throws a block to the bottom in turn one and he holds 2nd. Sweet jumps into the battle and takes over 3rd.

Lap 12, Gravel leads Larson by 1.2 seconds. Gravel runs low in turns 1-2 and high in 3-4, Larson runs the same line.

Halfway

9 to go, Larson has closed to 0.5 seconds back. Larson gets out of shape and Gravel opens the gap back up.

7 to go, Sweet jumps the cushion and sparks fly as he brushes the wall in turn four. He keeps it rolling in 3rd.

5 to go, Larson is within 5 car lengths of Gravel!

4 to go, Gravel works lap traffic and Larson closes. Larson jumps the cushion in turn four and he loses some ground.

2 to go, Larson is there once again.

White flag, Gravel runs the middle. Larson has a look to the bottom but he gets trapped by a lap car with no hole to get by.

They race into turn four for the final time. Larson is all over the leader but he can’t find a lane with lap cars all around the leaders.

David Gravel wins at Knoxville Raceway!
