The NASCAR Truck Series season opener is in the books at Daytona International Speedway

Tonight, the NASCAR Truck Series is set to begin their 2021 season on the 2.5-mile oval at Daytona International Speedway. It’s the NextEra Energy 250 in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Hailie Deegan has one career NASCAR Truck Series start. Tonight, she opens her full-season debut with Team DGR. John Hunter Nemechek is making his debut with Kyle Busch Motorsports.

Johnny Sauter will lead them to the green flag after claiming his first career superspeedway pole. the defending champ, Sheldon Creed completes the front row. 100 laps of truck racing are up next…

Stage 1 – Report

Laps: 20 (1-20 / 100)

Green flag, Sauter is clear as they roll into turn one. Big crash back at the flagstand! Tanner Gray was slow at the start and it stacked up the field. James Buescher and Gus Dean pick up heavy nose damage as they runs into a traffic jam and collect Derek Kraus.

Green, Sauter is clear into turn one.

Lap 9, Sheldon Creed leads a charge on the outside lane. creed pulls even with Sauter in the battle for the lead. Sauter holds the spot.

Lap 13, Raphael Lessard has a run on the outside and he clears Sauter to take over the lead.

Final lap in stage one, Creed has a run on the outside lane. He gets loose off turn four but saves it.

Raphael Lessard wins stage one of the NASCAR Truck race at Daytona!

Stage 2 – Report

Laps: 20 (21-40 / 100)

The field heads for the pit lane. Sheldon Creed wins the race to the pit exit.

Penalties: Creed has been caught speeding on the pit lane. Grant Enfinger takes over the race lead. Additionally, Matt Crafton will be held a full lap for pitting outside the box.

Green flag on stage two, Enfinger leads into turn one. He has a slow shift and John Hunter Nemechek powers to the lead on the inside.

Lap 28, Lessard takes them three wide for the lead, Lessard returns to the front. As the bottom lane stalls out, Nemechek retakes the race lead on the top lane.

Caution

Lap 35, Derek Kraus goes for a slide through the grass and the caution is out.

The leaders stay out. Deegan is the first truck to the pit lane from just inside the top 10. It’s just two laps to finish this stage.

Green, Nemechek leads on the bottom but he has no help. Ben Rhodes clears him on the outside and drops to take over the lead on the inside lane.

The leaders form single file. Nemechek lifts off the bumper of Rhodes into turn three. He gathers speed and has a run off turn four. Nemechek looks to the outside of Rhodes and Sauter pushes him.

Stage 3 – Report

Laps: 60 (41-100 / 100)

Nemechek hits the pit lane. Slow stop for Nemechek as Todd Gillilan wins the race to the pit exit with no tires. Enfinger leads them to the restart as he and and six others stay out.

Green flag on stage three, Enfinger and Tyler Ankrum run side by side into turn one. David Gilliland sticks his nose in the battle and he takes the lead on the bottom. Ankrum fights back on the top to retake the lead.

47 to go, Derek Kraus blows a tire and backs it into the wall. The caution is out.

Green, Enfinger gets the jump but Gilliland has a huge push into turn one and Gilliland leads off turn two.

40 to go, Austin Wayne Self spins following a bump draft. He slides across the track, collects Jordan Anderson and the caution is out.

Pit stops

The leaders hit the pit lane. Chanlder Smith wins the race to the pit exit.

Green, Gilliland gives a shot to Ankrum but Ankrum is sent to the infield. Several cars tack up behind them, caution. No damage for Ankrum but he’s going to the back. Creed and Friesen have minor damage.

Green, Smith leads.

28 to go, Crafton turns Todd Gilliland in a four wide situation. We have a big one and many trucks are collected. The caution is out.

Green, Smith and Enfinger run door to door at the front. Smith wins that battle as Enfinger gets taken three wide.

20 to go

20 to go, Hailie Deegan is sent for a ride toward the back of the field. She makes contact with the inside wall and the caution is out.

Green, Timothy Peters gets a huge shove from Rhodes on the outside. Both of them clear Chandler Smith, Peters leads.

14 to go, Rhodes gets a shove from Enfinger on the outside, Rhodes to the lead.

12 to go, Peters gets a push on the bottom and he runs side by side with Rhodes to the lead. Chanlder Smith works his way to the lead car on the outside. With a push, Smith returns to the lead.

8 to go, Smith and Enfinger run door to door for the lead. Smith gets loose after a push but he saves it!

Big crash

7 to go, Enfinger is smoking but he drives to the lead.

6 to go, Smith gets loose and slides through the infield no caution. Multiple trucks are tangled off turn two. Peters attempts to fill a hole in front of Drew Dollar, but the hole closed. Peters slides across the track in front of the field. 8+ trucks are collected including Ankrum, Hill and Lessard.

Enfinger has a flat tire under caution. He pits from the lead and hands the point to Ben Rhodes.

Green, Rhodes leads on the inside with a push from Crafton. Rhodes blocks both lanes.

White flag, Cory Roper pushes Creed to the outside of Rhodes. Roper dives to the inside of Cred into turn one, Roper leads. Rhodes has a run off turn four! Big crash behind them.

Rhodes pulls even as they drag race to the line. Ben Rhodes wins at Daytona International Speedway!
