Race Report
Green flag, Dixon gets the jump and he’s clear before the flag stand. They run three wide behind them. Colton Herta has a run on Dixon down the back, he looks inside and clear, Herta leads.
Lap 2, VeeKay looks inside of Dixon for 2nd. VeeKay has a run on Herta off turn four. He looks inside into turn one, VeeKay to the lead.
Lap 15, VeeKay leads Herta by 0.5 seconds.
Pit cycle
Lap 32, VeeKay pits from the race lead. Two laps later, Herta hits the pit lane. Stefan Wilson has issues on the pit lane, he’s crashed! He locked up the wheels under braking and clipped the pit wall. The caution is out.
Dixon pits for emergency service. He’s out of fuel and now the car won’t refire in his pit box. The crew removes the engine cover and scrambles to repair it. They get it refired but he’s a lap down.
Green, Herta leads VeeKay to the restart.
Lap 49, VeeKay looks to the inside of Herta for the lead off turn four. He takes it and Conor Daly follows him through to 2nd. Daly has a run on VeeKay down the back, Daly to the race lead in front of his home crowd.

Lap 71, Daly to the pit lane from the race lead.
Lap 82, Rahal and Hildenbrand are the last cars to pit. VeeKay cycles to the race lead with Daly in 2nd.
Lap 84, Daly has a run on VeeKay off turn two. He dives to the inside and returns to the lead in turn three.

Lap 103, Daly pits from the lead. VeeKay pits a lap later and he’s out ahead of Daly.
Lap 119, Graham Rahal spins on the apron of the out lap! The crew left a wheel loose and it came off. He slams the outside wall and Conor Daly hits the tire as it bounces across the track. Minor damage for Daly as the caution is out.
Dixon is back on the lead lap.
Green, Palou leads but Castroneves looks to the outside heading toward turn one. Castroneves to the race lead!
Lap 127, Pato O’Ward has a run, he takes the lead.
Lap 131, Palou to the race lead. O’Ward holds 2nd.
Pit cycle
Lap 148, Castroneves has a run on Palou into turn one. He dives to the inside, clear. Palou heads for the pit lane.
Lap 150, Castroneves pits from the lead. Two laps later than Palou.
Lap 164, Palou cycles to the race lead.
Lap 169, Castroneves has a run on Palou. He looks to the outside in turn one and takes the lead.

Lap 186, Palou looks inside of Castroneves down the back. That’s the race for 4th but pit stops are still underway. Castroneves takes the spot right back.
7 to go, Sato pits and Castroneves cycles back to the lead with Palou on his bumper.
6 to go, Castroneves snakes down the front stretch but Palou has a run anyway, Palou drives to the race lead.
3 to go, Castroneves has a run down the front stretch. He looks to the outside in turn one and he’s clear. Castroneves to the lead.
White flag, Castroneves leads Palou with lap traffic ahead.
Helio Castroneves wins the Indy 500! The crowd erupts for his 4th career win of the event.
