The start of this session has been delayed for track cleanup. Oil was dropped on the track during a support class session. Sand was dropped a long distance on the track to clean up the oil.
As the green drops on the session, the entire field hits the track. It’s just an install lap as the entire field heads right back to the pit lane. The track is dirty and the teams don’t want to tear up their stuff on the tight street course.
1 hour remains, drivers are struggling with the entry to turn four. It transitions from concrete to asphalt at the end of the bridge and the cars are looking wild through the bumps.
55 minutes remain, Alexander Rossi sits at the top of the board with a 1:18.8551.
Will Power looks to the inside of Cody Ware in the final corner. Grosjean shuts the door and they came within an inch of contact.
53 minutes remain, Pato O’Ward is in the wall and the red flag is out! He clipped the wall at the apex of turn three. The contact pushed him wide and he slammed the wall at the exit of the corner. Heavy damage for that machine.
40 minutes remain
Indycar Practice Times (40 Minutes Remain) : 1. Felix Rosenqvist (1;17.9955); 2. Colton Herta (1:18.2899); 3. Alexander Rossi (1:18.4236); 4. Palou; 5. McLaughlin; 6. O’Ward; 7. Harvey; 8. Rahal; 9. Daly; 10. Hinchcliffe;
32 minutes to go, Romain Grosjean jumps to the top of the board.
20 minutes remain, teams are starting to put on fresh tires. The times are likely to drop in a hurry.
8 minutes remain, Rossi locks up in turn 10. He uses the run off room to slow it down, no issue. Many have had that issue at the end of the long straight.
4 minutes remain, Conor Daly lockes up the brakes in turn nine. He slams into the tire barrier. The red flag is out but the driver is ok.
This season comes to a close a few minutes early. Colton Herta wins the opening Indycar practice session in Nashville, TN.
