Today, the NASCAR Cup Series makes their debut on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course. It’s the Verizon 200 at The Brickyard.

Stage 1 – Report

Laps: 15 (1-15 / 82)

NASCAR Cup Series - Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course

Green flag, Byron gets the jump and he blocks the inside into turn one. Briscoe holds 2nd as they run three and wide wide behind them.

Lap 2, Byron cooks turn 7 and runs wide at the exit. Briscoe drives right by on the inside to take over the lead.

Lap 5, Martin Truex Jr pits with a tire rub.

Lap 6, Austin Cindric wheel hops and spins into turn one. Yesterday’s winner keeps it rolling, no caution.

Lap 8

Lap 8, Aric Almirola and Corey Lajoie tangle and Almirola has heavy left front damage. Almirola heads to the pit lane to repair damage.

3 to go, most of the field heads for the pit lane ahead of the stage end. 2 to go, Broscie, Byron and Elliott also pit. Reddick and 7 others stay out.

2 to go, Reddick is on the bumper of McDowell for the race lead. He looks inside in turn 12 and takes the race lead.

Tyler Reddick takes the stage one win at Indianapolis!

Stage 2 – Report

Laps: 20 (16-35 / 82)

Most head for the rest head for the pit lane, Keselowski stays out on old tires. Chase Elliott restarts 2nd.

Green flag on stage two, Keselowski is clear into turn one. Byron and Elliott run side by side for 2nd, Byron takes that spot on the inside. Keselowski is holding up the field on old tires.

Byron dives to the inside of Keseowski in turn 7 but he can’t complete the pass. Elliott works inside of Byron.

Lap 21

Lap 21, Elliott to the inside of Keselowski in turn one. Elliott takes the race lead.

lap 23, Elliott leads Logano by 1.5 seconds. Keselowski is backing up the field, he’s fallen to 8th so far.

Lap 24, Bell doors DiBenedetto and they both slide through the grass. Moments later, Chastain spins, no caution.

Keselowski spins on his own in turn 11! He backs it into the wall, heavy damage, no caution. Moments later, Logano wheel hops into turn 7, he spins.

Lap 30, Elliott leads Larson by 1.5 seconds.

3 to go in stage two, many head for the pit lane. 2 to go, Elliott, Larson and most of the leaders hit the pit lane. Reddick and 7 others stay out.

Final lap in stage two, Larson passes Elliott as they slice through lap traffic. That will be the battle for the lead as the rest head to the pit lane.

Stage 3 – Report

Laps: 47 (36-82 / 82)

The rest of the field hits the pit lane. Larson cycles to the race lead with Elliott in 2nd.

Green flag on stage three, Larson and Elliott run side by side into turn one. Larson wins the race to turn two with the inside advantage.

Stenhouse Jr and Almirola spins behind them, no caution.

Lap 41, the caution is out for debris.

Green, Larson is clear into turn one. Byron and Elliott run side by side for 2nd, four wide behind them. Byron holds 2nd into turn two.

Lap 50, Larson leads Byron by 2.4 seconds.

Lap 51, Austin Cindric spins with help from Kurt Busch. Clindric heads for the pit lane with a flat spot on his tires.

Pit Cycle

Lap 55, Elliott and Truex head for the pit lane under green. A lap later, Larson pits from the lead.

23 to go, Hamlin leads Wallace by 13 seconds. 8 cars have yet to pit.

20 to go, Hamlin pits from the lead.

19 to go, Larson drives right by DiBenedetto as he skates around on much older tires. Larson cycles back to the lead, Elliott trails by 4 seconds.

11 to go, Larson works lap traffic, he still leads by 4 seconds. Hamlin is running 6th but he’s 1 second a lap faster with much newer tires.

10 to go, the caution is out for debris!

Kyle Larson most of the leaders head for the pit lane. Slow stop for Elliott as the jack falls. Hamlin, Kurt Busch, Matt DiBenedetto and Briscoe stay out.

6 to go

Green, Hamlin and Kurt Busch run side by side into turn one. Briscoe takes them three wide for the lead! Hamlin leads into turn one. Byron works by Larson with an aggressive three wide pass.

Truex Jr spins out of turn six, no caution. Larson works to the outside of Byron and takes 3rd back away.

5 to go, Chase Briscoe looks inside of Hamlin into turn one. They rub doors and Hamlin holds the lead. Larson is closing quickly.

Big trouble in turn 6! The curb has come up. Byron, Logano, Suarez, Preece, Bell, Newman, Kyle Busch and others all spin. As the cars went through the turn as usual, the curb ripped off their noses. With oil and water on the track, many others were sent into the tire barrier.

The red flag is out. NASCAR officials make quick work of the curb, they’ve removed it completely. Drivers will now finish this race on a slightly modified layout.

NASCAR Overtime

We’re going into NASCAR overtime. Two laps will settle it. Hamlin and Larson line up on the front row.

Green, Hamlin and Larson run side by side into turn one. Kurt Busch pushes Larson into turn one and Larson is forced wide and through the grass. Briscoe takes over 2nd.

More trouble in turn six! McDowell jumps the newly exposed curbing and nearly flips the car. As he lands, he spins across the track and gets drilled by Austin Dillon. Cole Custer and others pick up damage.

The red flag is back out.

NASCAR Overtime #2

They’ll rack ’em again for two more laps. Hamlin and Briscoe sit on the front row. Ross Chastain has been handed the black flag due to tire smoke and he’s forced to the pit lane just ahead of the green.

Green, Hamlin noses ahead before turn one but Briscoe pulls even under braking and pinches Hamlin down for a narrow entry to the corner. Hamlin runs wide and Briscoe is forced in the grass! He cuts the track and comes out even with Hamlin once again! Hamlin clears him.

Penalty: Brisoce has been handed a pass through penalty!

Briscoe turns Hamlin!

As Brisoce heads to the pits to serve a penalty, Allmendinger is handed the lead. Blaney is on his bumper with Larson in 3rd.

1 to go, Allmendinger opens the gap to Blaney.
