Turn two has been repaved ahead of this race. Drivers are unsure about the new pavement and they’ll see it for the first time on lap 1.

Daniel Hemric and AJ Allmendinger line up on the front row. 147 laps of stock car racing are up next.

Stage 1 – Report

Laps: 45 (1-45 / 147)

Green flag, Hemric gets the jump and he’s clear on the outside into turn one.

Lap 2, Sam Mayer runs the outside lane in turn two and he loses grip. As the back end steps out, he chases it up the hill and slams the wall off turn two, no caution.

Lap 10, Justin Allgaier has climbed to within a car length of Hemric in the battle for the lead.

Lap 11, Hemric has trash on the grill. He puts his hand out the window to let Allgaier by in an attempt to remove the debris.

Lap 14, Carson Ware is around on his own in turn four and the caution is out. Hemric hits the pit lane for a plug wire change.

Green, Allgaier leads into turn one as Noah Gragson takes 2nd away. Hamlin is climbing to the front in a hurry as he’s cracked the top 5 already.

Competition caution

Lap 21, the competition caution is out.

Green, Gragson gets the jump and noses ahead into turn one but Allgaier fights back on the outside and Allgaier holds the lead off turn two.

Lap 32, Hamlin takes 2nd away from Allgaier.

Lap 33, Hamlin leans on the rear bumper of Gragson into turn one. Gragson wiggles but holds the lead. Hamlin works to his inside back in turn three. Gragson gives him room in turn four and Hamlin completes the pass for the lead into turn one.

1 to go, Denny Hamlin struggles with lap traffic and Hemric is closing quickly. Hamlin looks under a lap car in turn three, the lap car pinches him and Hamlin spins in turn four!

Stage 2 – Report

Laps: 45 (46-90 / 147)

The field hits the pit lane. Slow stop for Hemric as Haley wins the race to the pit exit. Hamlin makes contact with David Starr on the pit lane.

Green flag on stage two, Haley noses ahead on the inside with a push from Hemric. Hemric loses momentum on the inside off turn two. Allmendinger to 2nd. Haley dives to the inside in turn three, Allmendinger is on the gas on the outside and he drives by Haley to take the lead in turn four.

Lap 58, Hemric and Brandon Jones tangle off turn two. Jones spins and tags the inside wall to bring out the caution.

Green, Haley spins the tires on the outside lane and falls to 4th as Allmendinger leads Gragson into turn one.

Lap 71, Gragson has a run on Allmendinger into turn one. He dives to the inside and clear, Gragson leads.

5 to go in stage two, Cindric dives to the inside of Allmendinger for 2nd into turn one. Cindric gets loose, chases it up the hill and pushes Allmendinger into the wall. They both keep rolling.

3 to go, Hamlin takes Allmendinger and Hemric three wide for 2nd in turn four. Hamlin clears them both.

1 to go, they’re four wide for 3rd off turn two. Somehow, they survive.

Noah Gragson wins stage two at Darlington Raceway!

Green flag on stage three, Gragson leads into turn one but Allmendinger has a run off turn two. Allmendinger has a run into turn three and he clears him on the inside, Hamlin follows him through.

Lap 103, Allmendinger to the bottom in turn three as Hamlin rolls the outside lane and builds momentum. Hamlin gets to his right rear and drives right by off turn four, Hamlin leads.

Lap 109, big crash in turn three! Tommy Joe Martins slowed with a mechanical issue. Herbst was blinded by cars ahead and drove right into the back of Martins. Herbst pulls it to the pit lane where the car catches fire and the caution is out.

Pit stops

The field hits the pit lane. Hamlin is first in and first off. Timm Hill stays out.

Green, Timmy Hill jumps out of gear and he drops through the field. Hamlin leads into turn one. Hemric drops to 13th as he was trapped behind Hill on the outside row.

15 to go, Hamlin works heavy lap traffic. Gragson has closed to within a half second. He clears the traffic and opens the gap.

10 to go, Brandon Jones spins in turn four and the caution is out.

Hamlin leads most of the field to the pit lane. Hamlin beats Gragson to the pit exit, by inches. Hemric and Cassill stay out on old tires.

Pit Penalty: Hamlin’s crew lifted equipment over the wall too soon. Hamlin will go to the tail of the field.

Green, Hemric leads into turn one as Gragson and Allmendinger run three wide behind him. Gragson works to the outside of Hemric in turn two and he clears him with ease on new tires.

Hemric spins in turn three. Allmendinger has a flat tire and he slows.

2 to go, caution for debris.

Green, Gragson is clear by a car length into turn one as Harrison Burton takes over 2nd.

1 to go, Gragson leads Burton by two car lengths into turn one. Gragson gets loose off turn two and Burton closes. Burton dives to the inside in turn three but Gragson has momentum on the top.
