Today, INDYCAR is set for the green in the city of Roses, Portland, Oregon. The 12-turn, 1.964-mile road course of Portland International Raceway is set for the Grand Prix of Portland.

Race Report

Green flag, Dixon looks inside of Palou but the runs of of track and lifts. As he lifts, Resenqvist gets into the back of Dixon and shoves him into the corner. Dixon runs wide and forces Palou wide with him. Rosenqvist bails on the corner completely as does Rossi. The top four all miss turn two. Others spin deeper in the pack and the caution is out.

Romain Grosjean, Helio Castroneves, James Hinchcliffe head to the garage. Will Power and others pit to repair damage. Pato O’Ward will take over the race lead with Graham Rahal along side.

Green, O’Ward leads Rahal by five car lengths into turn one on the single file restart.

Lap 20, O’Ward leads Rahal by 1 second.

Pit cycle; Lead change

Lap 30, O’Ward hits the pit lane. Rahal stays out for five more laps on the softer red tires.

As Rahal pulls out of the pits, he successfully passes O’Ward! Pit strategy hands Rahal the position.

Lap 45, Rahal cycles to the race lead. O’Ward trails by 2.2 seconds. A few cars are attempting a two stop strategy including Dixon, Palou, Rosenqvist, Herta, Power, Newgarden and many others who pitted on lap 9 just ahead ahead of the restart after the lap 1 crash.

Following the stop, Palou cycles in 10th. He’s just ahead of Newgarden and Dixon. All three cars are planing just one more stop. They’re 13 seconds back of Rahal.

Lap 50, Rahal leads O’Ward by 3.2 seconds. He’s opening the gap.

Lap 51

Lap 51, Callum Ilott and Dallett Kellett both stop on track and the caution is out! O’Ward, Pagenaud, McLaughlin and other dives for the pit lane. Rahal stays out.

Rahal leads them to the restart as he and others are staying out and saving fuel under yellow in an attempt to stop just once more. O’Ward restarts 12th after the pit stop.

Green, Rahal leads Ed Jones into turn one. Rossi, Newgarden and Dixon run three wide for 5th into turn one, Rossi takes the spot!

Lap 63, Rahal is lifting early at the end of each straight. It’s an attempt to save fuel as most of the top 10 does the same thing.

Pit cycle; Lead change

Lap 75, Rahal pits and installs the harder black tires. Ed Jones pits with him from 2nd.

Lap 77, Jack Harvey cycles out ahead of Rahal! He slots just ahead of Rahal on cold tires. Harvey is on it immediately after exiting the pits and nearly slides off the track as he struggles with cold tires. For now, this is a battle for 15th.

Lap 79, Rossi cycles out ahead of Harvey! Harvey is all over his bumper as Rossi gets up to speed. Harvey looks to the inside and Rossi throws a block!

Lap 80, Palou pits and he cycles out ahead of all of them. This will be the battle for the lead at the end of the cycle.

Lap 86

Lap 86, Simon Pagenaud spins on cold tires, stalls and the caution is out. Marcus Ericsson is on the pit lane, the last car to pit. Palou cycles to the race lead with Alexander Rossi in 2nd.

Green, Palou leads Rossi on the single file restart. Newgarden dives to the inside of Rosenqvist for 5th. Oliver Askew spins behind them with help from Bourdais, caution.

Green, Palou leads Rossi and Dixon into turn one.

10 to go, Palou leads Rossi by 0.5 seconds. Rossi drops a wheel and loses a full second as he gathers it back up, 1.5 seconds back now.

4 to go, Palou leads by 1.2 seconds.
