Martinsville Race Results: October 31, 2021 (NASCAR Cup Series)

NASCAR results from Martinsville Speedway; Championship 4 set

Today, the NASCAR Cup Series is set for the final elimination race ahead of next week’s championship race. Eight drivers are eligible, four will be eliminated after today. The half-mile of Martinsville Speedway is set for the Xfinity 500.

Denny Hamlin is a championship favorite. However, he’ll be dropping to the tail of the field ahead of the start after failing pre-race inspection.

Stage 1 – Report

Laps: 130 (1-130 / 500)

Green flag, Larson is clear into turn one. Elliott misses the bottom and gets into Martin Truex Jr in turn one, both continue.

Lap 34, William Byron gets into the back of Ryan Blaney in the battle for 7th. Blaney was loose already, Byron takes the spot.

Lap 55, Elliott has climbed to the bumper of Kyle Larson in the battle for the lead. Elliott dives to the inside in turn three as Larson struggles to lap Ricky Stenhouse Jr. Elliott to the lead.

Competition caution

Lap 61, the competition caution is out. Elliott leads the field to the pit lane but Larson wins the race to the pit exit.

Pit Penalty: Hamlin has been caught speeding on the pit lane and will drop to the tail.

Green, Larson is clear before turn one. Elliott and Keselowski run side by side for 2nd, Keselowski gets loose on the outside and Elliott holds 2nd.

Lap 72, Ryan Newman spins off turn four as Suarez got loose under him. The caution is out.

Green, Larson leads into turn one. Elliott holds 2nd once again.

Lap 85, Larson moves aside down the backstretch and hands the lead to Elliott.

Lap 92, Blaney checks up off turn four and Dillon drives hard into his rear bumper. Blaney has a crinkled left rear and deck lid, no caution.

Stage 2 – Report

Laps: 130 (131-260 / 500)

Elliott leads the field to the pit lane. Larson wins the race to the pit exit, by inches.

Pit Penalty: Larson has been caught speeding on the pit lane and will drop to the tail.

Green flag on stage two, Elliott leads as Truex Jr moves into 2nd.

Lap 197, Austin Dillon is in the wall with a flat right front and the caution is out.

Pit stops

Elliott leads the field to the pit lane. Truex Jr wins the race to the pit exit!

Pit Penalty: Tyler Reddick will drop to the rear after speeding on the pit lane.

Green, Truex Jr noses ahead on the inside lane but Elliott hangs onto his right rear off turn two. Back in turn one, Byron leans on the bumper of Truex and Elliott clears Truex Jr off turn two.

Lap 218, Byron dives to the inside of Truex Jr in turn three, Byron to 2nd.

Stage 3 – Report

Laps: 240 (261-500 / 500)

Pit Penalty: Kyle Busch will go to the tail as he was caught speeding.

Green flag on stage three, Elliott wins the race off turn two.

Lap 273, Hamlin dives to the inside of Bowman to take 2nd away. Justin Haley has a huge left rear tire rub and he pits under green.

Lap 282, Bowman works inside of Hamlin to retake the 2nd position.

Lap 287, Bubba Wallace nearly brushes the wall after Erik Jones sends him deep into the corner. No caution as he keeps it rolling.

Lap 311, Josh Bilicki spins after entering three wide with McDowell and Lajoie. The caution is out.

Pit stops

Elliott leads the field to the pit lane. Elliott also wins the race to the pit exit as Hamlin’s crew gets him off 2nd.

Pit Penalty: Bubba Wallace to the tail for speeding.

Green, Hamlin misses a shift on the outside lane. Elliott leads Bowman into turn one.

Lap 323, Josh Bilicki spins Quin Houff and the caution is out. Houff spins Bilicki under caution in retaliation.

Penalty: Houff will be held for 5 laps for spinning Bilicki under yellow.

Green, Elliott restarts from the outside lane and clear Bowman after a lap.

Lap 339, Custer clips Ryan Newman and turns him into Chastain. Newman hits the wall and Chastain picks up heavy damage, caution.

Pit stops

Elliott leads them to the pit entry and pit exit. Logano stays out after pitting on the previous caution, he’ll take over the lead.

Green, Logano runs Elliott wide into turn one and holds the lead off turn two.

Lap 351, Elliott has a run off turn four, he dives to the inside of Logano and Elliott leads off turn two.

Truex Jr is pushing water out of the hood at he’s running hot.

Lap 357, Cole Custer is around and the caution is out.

Green, Elliott leads Bowman off turn two.

Suarez spins with help from Briscoe and the caution is out.

Pit stops

Elliott leads them to the pit lane and pit exit. Larson falls to 9th with a slow stop. Austin Dillon, Tyler Reddick and Cole Custer all stay out.

Pit Penalty: Kyle Larson has been caught speeding and will go to the tail for the second time today.

Green, Dillon leads into turn one but Truex Jr drives it deep to the outside from row two and pulls even. Truex Jr clears him on the outside with slightly fresher tires.

Lap 388, Hamlin dives to the inside of Martin Truex Jr. Hamlin moves to the race lead.

75 to go, Hamlin leads Truex Jr by 1 second.

63 to go, Austin Dillon has another flat tire while running 6th, caution.

Pit stops

Hamlin hits the pit lane and wins the race to the pit exit.

Green, Hamlin leads into turn one as Bowman holds 2nd.

54 to go, Bowman dives to the inside of Hamlin in turn three. Bowman runs him wide but Hamlin still holds him off in turn four.

50 to go, Martin Truex Jr has collected heavy left front fender damage but he’s still rolling.

46 to go, Brad Keselowski spins Chase Elliott for 4th! The caution is out.

Green, Hamlin and Bowman run side by side off turn two. Ricky Stenhouse Jr spins and stalls behind them, caution.

Green, Hamlin is clear off turn two. Bowman and Keselowski fight for 2nd. Truex Jr dives inside of both of them to make it three wide. Keselowski takes thr spot on both of the through the middle, Keselowski runs 2nd.

Almirola gets loose and shoves Truex Jr up the track. More problems for Truex as Kurt Busch shoves him into the wall.

29 to go

29 to go, Ryan Preece spins, caution.

Green, Hamlin is clear into turn one. Bowman drives it deep into turn one to hold 2nd. Bowman shoves Hamlin into turn three, Bowman leads off turn four.

Hamlin lines up the bumper of Bowman as they roll into turn one. Bowman runs the outside and leaves the inside lane open. Hamlin drives it deep to the bottom and doors Bowman to retake the lead!

15 to go, Bowman is leaning on the bumper of Hamlin in the battle for the lead. Bowman looks to the inside but can’t complete the pass.

6 to go, Bowman wheel hops into turn three! He chases it up the banking and into Hamlin. Hamlin spins and tags the wall!

Green, Bowman slides through turn two and Kyle Busch is all over him off turn two.

1 to go, Bowman leads by a car length.

Kyle Busch can’t get to Bowman in turn three. Alex Bowman wins at Martinsville Speedway!
