Tonight, the field has been split in half for two separate races. It’s the Daytona Duels at Daytona International Speedway!

Noah Gragson, Kaz Grala and JJ Yeley are the non-charter cars in Duel 1. Gragson is already locked into the Daytona 500. Whoever finishes better in this race between Grala and Yeley will advance into Sunday’s race, the other will be sent home.

This race will set the inside row in the Daytona 500 and season points are also on the line. Kyle Larson and William Byron set the front row. 60 laps of stock car racing are up next…

Daytona Duel 1
Report

Green flag, Larson gets the jump from the outside lane. He crosses over to lead the inside lane into turn one.

Lap 6, the top four have formed single file around the inside lane. Larson leads teammates Byron and Chase Elliott. The top lane is breaking apart.

Lap 20, Larson leads as the top 10 cars have all formed single file around the inside lane. However, a group of Fords have lined up directly behind the Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolets.

Lap 31, Chase Elliott moves up a lane. He catches a push draft from Ryan Blaney and shuffles Byron out of line. Elliott takes over 2nd as Byron falls to 9th.

Pit cycle

26 to go, the Chevrolet group heads for the pit lane, lead by Kyle Larson. Larson nearly stalls exiting his box, Elliott wins the race to the pit exit.

Pit Penalty: Kaz Grala has been caught speeding on pit lane. He’ll serve a pass through penalty.

25 to go, Blaney leads the Ford and Toyota group to the pits. The Ford group takes right side tires only.

23 to go, Ryan Blaney cycles to the race lead! He leads Keselowski, Briscoe and Cindric. Elliott runs 7th.

19 to go, Keselowski leans hard on the rear bumper of Blaney. Blaney skates all over the track but holds the lead. The top 5 Fords are breaking away from Chase Elliott and the Chevrolet group.

15 to go, Elliott runs 6th and trails the leader by 5 seconds. A five car breakaway at the front.

4 to go, Keselowski looks to the outside lane at the flagstand. He has help from Briscoe and Keselowski gets pushed to the lead.

3 to go, Blaney boxes Cindric in behind a lap car. Blaney retakes 2nd.

1 to go, Blaney pushes Keselowski into turn one. He lifts off and drags back to the bumper of Cindric. Cindric looks inside and shuffles Blaney out of line.

As they run three wide for 2nd, Brad Keselwoski wins Duel 1 at Daytona! Kaz Grala passes JJ Yeley on the final lap. Grala will advance into the Daytona 500!
