Daytona 500 Results: February 20, 2022 (NASCAR Cup Series)

NASCAR race results from Daytona International Speedway

Today, it’s the biggest race of the year for the NASCAR Cup Series. The famed Daytona 500 is set to begin at Daytona International Speedway in Florida.

Daytona 500
Stage 1 – Report

Laps: 65 (1-65 / 200)

Green flag, Larson gets the jump on the outside lane. He drops to the bottom into turn one with teammate Alex Bowman on his bumper.

Brad Keselowski leads a charge on the outside lane. He has help from Austin Cindric, Brad Keselowski launches ahead and leads lap one on the outside lane.

Lap 8, Kyle Busch leads a train of Toyotas on the inside lane. They’ve pulled even with Keselowski. Laps later, the inside lane dissipates. Kyle Busch thinks the tighter radius is hurting the RPM with the new car. The outside lane might be the place to be with the Next Gen car.

Lap 28, the outside lane has some separation between cars. Kyle Busch noses ahead on the inside lane to lead a lap.

Lap 38, Christopher Bell has an issue. His right front hood flap has become detached. Pit stops are already underway.

Lap 39, Jacques Villeneuve spins entering pit lane, no caution.

Pit Penalty: Ty Dillon has been caught speeding and will serve a pass through penalty.

Lap 39

Lap 39, Kaz Grala has lost a wheel after exiting the pit lane. NASCAR throws the caution. Chase Briscoe lifts for the yellow but Austin Cindric wasn’t aware and gets into the back of him. Briscoe spins across the apron in turn three, light damage to the nose as he scrapes the apron.

Lap 53, Justin Haley has suffered a broken wheel. As the rim breaks, the tire pops off and rolls down the track. The caution is out.

Ryan Blaney’s team is struggling to tighten the lugnut on their wheels.

6 to go in stage one, Harrison Burton pulls even via the outside lane with a push from Martin Truex Jr. They’re clear, Martin Truex Jr cuts off his bumper and heads for the bottom lane. Truex Jr leads.

3 to go in stage one, Keselowski pushes Harrison Burton off turn two. Burton gets loose and spins to the inside lane. He collects William Byron, Kyle Busch, Denny Hamlin, Christopher Bell, Alex Bowman, Ross Chastain and others. Burton’s machine landed on it’s roof before rolling back over on it’s wheels.

Martin Truex Jr wins stage one under the caution at Daytona International Speedway!

Stage 2 – Report

Laps: 65 (66-130 / 200)

Erik Jones wins the race to the pit exit and he’ll lead the field to the restart.

Green flag on stage two, Ryan Blaney leads off turn two with a push from Austin Cindric on the outside lane. They drop to the bottom in turn three.

Lap 100, Blaney leads Cindric as the entire field has formed single file around the inside lane.

Lap 110, the pit cycle is complete. Brad Keselowski cycles to the race lead as most took fuel only. Slow stop for Chase Elliott as he stalls leaving his box.

Pit Penalty: Suarez has been caught speeding and will serve a pass through penalty.

6 to go in stage two, Keselowski leads a train around the top lane. Kyle Larson leaves his rear bumper and cuts to the bottom. Larson clears him and takes the lead.

5 to go, Keselowski pulls the exact same move on Larson and retakes the lead. Larson is hung out to dry and falls outside the top 10.

2 to go in stage two, the lap car of Chase Briscoe throws a big block on race leader Keselowski. He stays on the lead lap.

1 to go, Keselowski heads to the bottom to lap Briscoe. Logano stays with Briscoe and pushes the lap car but Logano leads. Martin Truex Jr has a run off turn four, he side drafts Logano. They run side by side to the line.

Martin Truex Jr wins stage two by inches in the Daytona 500!

Stage 3 – Report

Laps: 70 (131-200 / 200)

Keselowski wins the race to the pit exit. He’ll lead them to the restart.

Green flag on stage three, Keselowski is clear with a push from Cindric into turn one.

50 to go, Tyler Reddick pushes off the bottom in turn four. He gets loose in dirty air as he tries to pull it back into line. Villeneuve gets into the back of him and turns him around. Logano, Kurt Busch and other are collected. The caution is out.

Austin Cindric wins the race to the pit exit. He’ll lead them to the restart. Chase Elliott is forced to stop before his box to left Bubba Wallace exit his box. Kyle Larson stalls leaving his stall.

Green, Cindric and Bubba Wallace run side by side at the front. Cindric is clear into turn three with a push from Blaney.

36 to go

36 to go, Kyle Busch pushes on the bumper of Bubba Wallace. Wallace to the lead, he moves to the bottom lane then back to the top.

29 to go, the inside lane has prevailed this time. Cindric returns to the lead with Blaney still on his bumper.

25 to go, Kyle Busch locks onto the bumper of Wallace. They’re both clear of Cindric. Wallace and Bussch drop to the inside and take over the lead.

21 to go, Chris Buescher pushes Ricky Stenhouse Jr to the lead on the outside lane. Wallace fights back and retakes the lead on the inside but they fade once more.

17 to go, Ricky Stenhouse Jr leads Buescher as the top 15 form single file around the top lane.

10 to go

10 to go, Stenhouse Jr throws a block on Cindric to hold the lead. Big crash behind them!

Larson gave a bump to Harvick just as Harvick slowed to catch the rear bumper of Buescher. Harvick gets turned and clips Gragson. As they slide across the track, Larson, Jones and others are collected.

Green, Stenhouse Jr and Cindric run even into turn one. Cindric wins the battle on the inside lane.

Ricky Stenhouse Jr gets turned off turn four! He got loose with Keselowski on his bumper. Stenhouse JR bounces off the wall and Chris Buescher is collected. The caution is back out and this is going into overtime…

Green, Cindric is clear on the outside. He moves to the inside and catches a push from Ryan Blaney. Briscoe leans on the rear bumper of Keselowski via the outside lane.

1 to go, Briscoe gives a huge push to Keselowski into turn one. Cindric leads by a car length into turn three.

Cindric throws a block on Ryan Blaney in the tri-oval! Blaney is in the wall. Cindric cuts all the way to the bottom lane to throw a block on Bubba Wallace!
