Stage 1 – Report

Laps: 80 (1-80 / 400)

Green flag, Almirola wiggles off turn two on the outside. Chase Elliott leads the field into turn three.

Lap 40, Elliott leads William Byron by 2 seconds. Elliott is slicing right through lap traffic.

Lap 64, Elliott struggles to lap the 26th place car of Daniel Suarez. William Byron closes to within a car length of the leader. As he does that, Elliott puts the bumper to Suarez and forces his way by.

Chase Elliott cruises to the win in stage one at Martinsville Speedway! Hamlin puts the bumper to Michael McDowell in an attempt to be the first car 1 lap down. He jacks him up pretty good but McDowell holds the spot and will get his lap back.

Pit Penalties: Bubba Wallace and Brad keselowski will drop to the rear as their crews were over the wall too soon. Cody Ware joins him as he was too fast.

Green flag on stage two, Byron lags back on the inside lane. His teammate, Chase Elliott drops to the inside lane and holds the race lead.

Lap 115, Chase Elliott leaads with William Byron on his bumper.

1 to go in stage two, Daniel Suarez puts the bumper to the race leader. Suarez is unable to get by remains 2 laps down.

Elliott leads the field to the pits. Byron wins the race to the pit exit.

Pit Penalty: Cole Custer’s crew lost a tire and will drop to the rear.

Green flag on stage three, Elliott lags back on the inside lane. Byron drops down in front of him to lead the field into turn one.

Lap 240, Byron leads Elliott by a car length.

Lap 249, Daniel Suarez is forced to pit under green. He stayed out on old tires at the start of this stage. That was an attempt to get 1 of his laps back. As he re-enters the track, he runs wide on old tires. As he gathers it up, he makes contact with 2nd place runner Chase Elliott.

Lap 280, Joey Logano pits the bumper to Chase Elliott to take 2nd away. Elliott falls all the way to 5th as he gets trapped on the outside lane.

Lap 290, Kyle Busch is the first car to pit under the green flag.

Lap 295, Martin Truex Jr has a flat right front after his pit stop! No caution, he returns to the pits for the second time.

Pit Penalty: Christropher Bell has been penalized as his crew was over the wall too soon. He’ll serve a pass through penalty. Kyle Larson will serve the same penalty after speeding on the pit lane.

Lap 307, the green flag pit cycle is complete. William Byron cycles back to the race lead. Joey Logano trails by 1.4 seconds.

90 to go

90 to go, the caution is out for debris.

Chase Elliott, Kevin Harvick, Kyle Busch and a handful of others head for the pit lane. Only 17 cars are on the lead lap.

Green, Byron and Austin Dillon run inches apart into turn one. Dillon pinches him down into turn three but Byron holds the lead back to the line.

76 to go, Kyle Busch is forcing the issue. He runs outside as they’re three wide and Busch passes both cars for 8th! His tires are only 10 laps newer than the rest of the field.

50 to go, Byron leads Austin Dillon by 1.5 seconds. Logano is all over the bumper of Dillon.

10 to go, Byron leads Austin Dillon by 2.7 seconds.

7 to go, Todd Gilliland locks up and tags the wall, the caution is out.

Kyle Busch is the first to pit from 9th. Most behind him pit as well. Busch will restart in 13th with fresh tires. We roll into NASCAR overtime for a 2 lap shootout.

Green, Byron and Logano run side by side into turn one as Austin Dillon spins the tires behind them. Byron clears him off turn two and Logano holds 2nd off the corner. Byron runs wide off turn four and Logano closes right back to his bumper.

1 to go, Logano nudges the bumper of Byron into turn one. It’s not enough. He drives it deep into turn three for the final time but can’t get to his bumper.
